This week's quick project- a decorated glassine bag

Got a small notecard and some really small scrap paper bits? Why not put them together on a glassine bag? :)

Meet this week's quick project- a decorated glassine bag. Perfect for a little love note to go along with your homemade sweet treats *only if your family has NOT already eaten them all...hehehe*

I ran out of the cute girl on cupcake stickers but I still have a couple of cupcake ones. :)

Hope you've been having a great week so far friends!

Wednesday

Workspace Wednesday - Behind the scenes of pastry-making *LOL*

Well-meaning friends and relatives when eating my baked goods: "You should totally open a bakery. This is really good. "

Me: *smiles* while recalling how this frangipane peach tart looked like just hours ago...

You know how on YouTube, every baker rolls out the perfect tart shell and transfers it to the tart tin effortlessly?

Well, this was my first attempt. For this tart.

I mean, I've tried the roll the dough on the rolling pin and unroll it perfectly into the tart tin method. Apparently, I do not own said magic rolling pin because the dough sticks to the rolling pin and "dies" halfway through the roll and I have to start over.

And this was my much much better second attempt which I went with..because more attempts would require the dough to rest in the refrigerator again *nobody got time for that...*LOL*

My method is to roll the dough on a silicone mat, then flip the mat over the tart tin and hope that most of the dough lands in the right spot. And then add dough to patch the "holes".

So now you know that my pastry dough is mostly patch-worked to completion. Hahaha!

The actual baked tart holds up well even after cutting them into slices (Yam family members actually eat the tart pieces with their hands because getting a fork would mean they need to wash the fork *too much effort*) so I think the recipe is not the problem. I probably need to work on my technique of rolling.

Happy Wednesday friends!

This week's Santa project - Santa on an envelope

Well, you just know that Santa has to make it on one of my colourful patterned envelopes right? (Especially since I've used up all the cute girl on cupcake stickers *insert sad music*).

This was one of those projects that came together so quickly that you feel like you practically did nothing and came out with a pretty decent-looking project.*LOL*

All I did was add a music patterned paper, adhere the banner sticker, glue down Santa's cute face in the empty "frame" and finished with a strip of washi tape at the base.

Super quick and easy project. :)

What do you think?

Make Stuff Monday - an almost "complete" decorated paper bag

Hello friends! Meet my almost "complete" decorated paper bag. It looks pretty decent but lacks the finishing touches that make them a Y creation....you know some bling or bird *winks at Julie*

I started off with this sturdy paper bag.

Even though I love having ready-to-go decorated paper bags, sometimes, I like "personalizing" a piece to suit the recipient. :) I left some "note" space for a personal note/monogram.

I might possibly change out the bag handles when I actually use it too. So many possibilities. :)

Or I just might be lazy, put in a coloured wrapping tissue (one of the numerous colours already in the design) and call it done. *LOL*

Happy week ahead friends!

A Santa tag

Just a quick Santa tag to share today! :)

I'm currently working on my Christmas projects from a box of paper scraps that I've customized to be "Christmas-themed" (I threw in all stuff that can possibly be tweaked for a Christmas project - red, green, gold paper scraps, glitter cardstock, chipboard and stickers) which makes putting everything together really fast. :)

Happy weekend friends!

Thursday

It's ben a while but here's an eye drawing from the sketchbook

Well, it's been a while since I last drew or painted anything....because I've been momentarily distracted by my "use up the Santa" projects. *winks*

As those projects are drawing to a close *triumphant music plays in the background*, I've decided to ease myself back into drawing with my fave subject of course - the eye. And of course it has to be a colourful eye because we all need a little colour in our lives, right?

Happy Thursday friends!

A decorated paper bag

Well friends, you saw that I got a couple of sturdy paper bags when I went downtown last week to collect my free beauty samples so you know that a decorated paper bag is inevitable right? *winks*

Sturdy paper bags like this one are hard to come by because I generally decline bags when shopping. But with the COVID 19 pandemic, freebie bags are already nicely packed and sealed so that you can just pick it up and go, keeping actual in-store time to the bare minimum. :)

This decorated paper bag came together quite quickly because I had already created the paper scrap "scene" cluster when I was reorganizing my paper scrap pile (the product of massive distraction whilst supposedly reorganizing...hehe). All I did was find a base patterned paper which I cut to size for both the front and back panels of the paper bag, adhered the pieces to the bag and finished with a dimensional bloom and button for added interest.

It's been nice adding to my ready-to-use pile of decorated paper bags. :)

What about you? Do you have a pile of ready-to-use decorated paper bags?

This week's cute project

Hello friends! Today I'm sharing another cute project on an envelope. :)

The cute girl on the cupcake just makes me smile.

Not sure why she's so happy about sitting so precariously next to some cacti....*LOL*

Happy Tuesday friends! :)

Make Stuff Monday - Another Christmas decorated mini file folder

I love doing these mini Christmas decorated file folders because I get to really use up my Christmas stash. It's super fun to use bits and bobs from different collections and creating Christmas vignettes on my projects. :)

And of course, they are a vehicle for me to showcase my fussy-cut Santa who is (possibly) on every Christmas project this year. *winks*

I went with fussy-cut elements, chipboard and stickers. :)

Happy week ahead friends!:)

Friday

A page from the recipe planner - egg tarts

One of the items I love to order when I go for dim sum are the egg tarts. :)

The filling is an egg custard (eggs and milk) but you can have variations on the pastry - puff pastry or shortcrust pastry. If you already have dough ready to go, this is actually pretty quick to make because you bake the pastry with the filling (no need to blind-bake).

My fave pastry is Pâte Sablée so I make my egg tarts with that. :)

The recipe planner is getting pretty full from my insane recipe-trying at the beginning of the pandemic when we were in full lockdown. Right now, I'm working less on totally-new recipes but tweaking old faves to alleviate them. (Clearly watched too many episodes of MasterChef...*LOL*)

But the paper scrap pile and the sticker pile are getting smaller so I'm on track with my paper goals 2020. :)

Happy weekend friends!

Santa and his flamingo posse

Yes, the Santa game is going strong - meet today's Santa with his flamingo posse!  Julie, more birds! *LOL*

The flamingos were from packaging (I think it was Tarte's holiday makeup brushes).

A super quick card with stickers!

Happy Thursday friends! :)
