Why I enjoy sketching and colouring in cafes...:)

Why-I-enjoy-sketching-and-colouring-in-cafes

When I first started sketching, I was really self-conscious about doing it in public cafes because I really didn't know what I was doing and I didn't want other people to know. *winks*

Now, I still don't know what I'm doing half the time but with caffeine and dessert, I can zone out and enjoy the process. Some busy bodies might sneak a peek at what I am doing;  most people are too busy playing with their electronics and the ones that do say something generally say something nice.

I would look for a nice cosy corner by the window (natural light!) and just enjoy my ar therapy for a while. Actually, most of my sketches are done on the go. Too many distractions at home. You know, art supplies beckoning me to "use" them....*LOL*

What about you? Do you enjoy arting in cafes?

Friday

Someone had 2 mains for dinner (Not me)!

Someone-had-2-mains-for-dinner

So the other day we went to the NUSS cafe for dinner and my sister decided to order the stuffed squid.

When it came, my sister was a little disappointed (Note: facial expression had to be re-enacted for me! Hehe...) because the portion was really pathetic.

So she ordered another main - a club sandwich. Notice the much happier expression on her face? It's because of those curly fries! Why do curly fries taste better than normal fries??? *winks*

Still working hard on demolishing the scrap pile but it's always fun to incorporate little fun bits on my layout - a little cup here, a monster there...you know. *LOL*

One box: three ways

Remember how excited I was about the sturdy boxes that the Google WiFi Routers came in? Well, I had to wait a whole week before I could work on them (in case they didn't work and we had to return them in those boxes.*winks*).

Anyway, I wanted to challenge myself to create three different decorated boxes...here they are in one post. :)

Mixed media box inspired by Pantone 2018 Colour of the Year - Ultra Violet (a tutorial)

Mixed-media-proect-inspired-by-2018-Pantone-Colour-of-the-Year---ultra-violet
The lovely Tina Walker invited us to participate in fun challenge inspired by Pantone 2018 Colour of the year - Ultra Violet. I really wanted to use this Give me some nude lip box that I got from Sephora during the Christmas sale for my project so I decided that I would just paint a mouth wearing ultra violet lipstick. :)

I covered the box with scrunched up wrapping tissue (from packaging) which I adhered with gel medium. Then I prep the box for colorants with gesso.

Next, I covered it with red mist and then a layer of purple mist to create depth in the layers of colours.

Then I went in with inks and acrylic paints. This took a bit of time...and a lot of wet tissues to create the desired effect of a dimensional mouth.

The brush pens and markers helped to make the process a little easier but I did have to go in with heavy body acrylic paints for the darkest shadows and highlights.

It was quite a fun challenge to partake in and it was possibly the first time my project ever turned out the way I envisioned it to...*winks*

Happy week ahead friends! :)
