Crazy about dinosaurs

My nephews are really crazy about dinosaurs. Bring them to the library and they head straight for the shelf with the books on dinosaurs. Don't ask me how many times we've watched Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. *LOL* Their dinosaur figurines are among their most treasured toys.

So I got pretty excited when I saw that my friend K had the Cricut cartridge for these cuties...[Hey, I've got to work hard to maintain my fave aunt status! *LOL*]

A little stickle-action for a sparkly finish...and some Gauche Alchemy fibers for some texture.

I was inspired by the sketch at Sketchy Thursdays, this fortnight's song at Scrapping The Music and the challenge at TAAFOMFT on fave toys.

Supplies: Cardstock, cork paper, stickles, thread, Gauche Alchemy embellishments, googly eyes, Cricut diecuts, thread, white pen, stickers.

The rowdy bunch

Hello friends! Today's layout features the rowdy bunch - my three nephews! :) I love how different their personalities are ....and how rowdy they get when they are at play! :)

 I upcycled a disposable chopstick and wound some baker's twine around it and the banner (for a little dimension). American Crafts papers. Mists. Heidi Swapp mask. Thread. Buttons. SRM sticker.

The posing game

It's getting increasing harder to take decent pictures [eyes looking at camera, genuine smile] of my nephews so recently we've been playing The Posing Game. I get them to make funny faces at the camera and we laugh at what we've captured on the viewfinder...this makes them want to take more pictures and in the process, I sometimes capture some fleeting but true moments of fun and joy on their faces! Yay! :)

This layout was inspired by the new challenge at These Are a Few of My Favorite Things - Fave Game - where I'm guest-designing this month. :)

The base scalloped-edge paper is from October Afternoon. Misting on the cardstock. The edges were inked with distress inks. A little stamping...love the text...American Crafts banner and puffy stickers. SRM quote and year stickers. Buttons. Fancy Pants chipboard (misted).

The story of wonderful you

Hello friends! I'm the guest designer this month at These are a Few of My Favorite Things! :) And the first challenge this month is These are a Few of Your Favorite Quotes! :) I went with an inspirational piece of art to remind me to stay positive in 2011: The Story of Wonderful You. *wink*

 

Okay, this 8 X 10 piece of canvas definitely took more than an hour!  *LOL* 

Lots of masking, misting, stamping and inking on this! The bird is a DRS Design stamp. The rest are Unity Co stamps.

The stamp, the map paper, beads, green glitter and the key/lock charm are all from Gauche Alchemy. Ranger Crackle Paint in rock candy. Tattered Angels glimmer mist in gold. Maya mists in tangerine, turquoise and lemon. Glossy Accents. Ranger stickles in rock candy. Tattered Angels glimmer glaze in tide pool. American Crafts foam thickers. Claudine Hellmuth Gel Medium.

I used a Tim Holtz flourish mask and also punchinella to mask. The black large circles were stamped with big bubble wrap (fun stuff!). A little distress embossing powder and lots of stickers! :)

A giraffe thank you card

I have a thing for giraffes. Yes, I would visit the zoo just to see the giraffes. *LOL*

Naturally, I got very excited when I saw this giraffe embossing folder in my friend Karen's stash....:)

I coloured the raised portions with Copics....added some Cosmo Cricket patterned paper, some Gauche Alchemy Ouchless Cardboard, googly eye and SRM sticker 'thanks' sentiment.

I'm supposed to list 3 things that make me different.

1. I'm not afraid of creepy crawlies! Ideally, I would love to have a piece of tissue between my bare hand and said creepy crawlies but I'm totally okay with actually touching them.

2. I watch way too many crime shows. I think it's pretty unhealthy when the show starts with someone dying in some gross way and there I am digging heartily into my meal...;)

3. I can sleep in any moving vehicle (as long as I'm not driving). Really. On planes. On buses. Even standing while on a train...:)

She was torn...an art journal page

Happy Monday friends! Today I'm sharing an art journal page! Yeah, you read right...not a misprint! *LOL* Kind of had to since my guest blogger Marit issued a collage challenge! :) I was inspired by the prompt over at TAAFOMFT...fave manufacturers... :) She was torn because it was so hard to choose...she really loved them all...[yes, I'm referring to myself in third person here!]

I first misted the background, then did some masking and inking. I added bits and pieces of scrap paper, stickers and some embellies from Gauche Alchemy.

Saturday memories

Hello friend! Just wanted to share a layout I did for the challenge over at TAAFOMFT...fave day of the week...mine is Saturday...that's the day I get to spend time with my nephews (all 3 of them!)...creating our happy Saturday memories...:)  I used the sketch at PageMaps.

Patterned papers are a mix of Cosmo Cricket, Prima and Teresa Collins. Letter stickers are from Studio Calico. Banner Stickers are from Jenni Bowlin. Some brads, buttons, googly eyes, string and Prima pom pom trim.

Guns & roses

So Gauche Alchemy's the latest sponsor over at the These Are a Few of my Favorite Things challenge site and I decided to play along. Fave band? Soooo hard to choose...my taste in music is eclectic though I don't enjoy techno and totally don't get trance....Anyway I had to choose one for the challenge so I did a tongue-in-cheek piece featuring my oldest nephew S, er....posing with his toy guns & added paper roses as embellishments... Guns & Roses...haha...so corny right?

Okay, so I totally made my nephew pose for this. *LOL*

Yes, another piece done on 6 X 12 acrylic...inked the edges with Stazon in Fuchsia Pink..some paper scraps from Sassafras...misted the music paper from the Wholey Sheet Mixed Media Kit and used bits from the various Mixed Media Color Kits.

Oh well, Guns N' Roses Sweet Child O' Mine is still my fave song to sing to when driving...particularly when I'm feeling sleepy...so glad I have an amplifier in the car!!!!;) Er...when I'm by myself of course! :)

Meet my best friend...my red doll...when I was eleven months old. According to my mum, I was so taken with this doll that I absolutely had to take her everywhere with me...:)

Wild & wonderful & amazing

My childhood was wild & wonderful & amazing. I think. At least the bits I do remember. And these are possibly my favourite life moments. Eat, sleep, play. Repeat. I remember going to the supermarket with my grandfather in the afternoons to taste food in the aisles. And the pretty dresses my mother sewed me. And the purses I always carried. The bicycle with a basket. My red doll. What are your childhood memories like?

Here I was...in one of those dresses. And the mum-cut mushroom-like hair. (cue: laughter)

Some misting and some handstitching on those beautiful flowers (I love American Crafts)...pink ric rac (too lazy to stitch that portion...lol), journaling card: Studio Calico, felt piece: Tinkering Ink, resin sticker: Stemma, starburst stickers: EK Success and button.

My favourite layout of 2009

This is my favourite layout of 2009. It features my nephew O in the bathtub. I love that I captured him at play unaware of the camera. It is not fancy by any means but I put in a lot of effort for the title work. The chipboard letters were painted with crackle paint, then colorized with distress inks and faux stitched with a white pen. I love the stamped music notes on the background ....doesn't it appear that the bird is singing out the title?

African Safari

So I haven't been on my favourite vacation yet...because I wanna go on an African Safari! Nature at its best! Someday....soon. It is on my bucket list! Check out my garden tribute...cacti in an old fish tank complete with plastic wild animals... (It looks really good at night with tealights!) Right now, I'll just have to be contented with visiting the zoo...and watching National Geographic...

I live in a place where it's summer all year round (yeah...hot hot hot!)...but my favourite season is spring...I love to travel in spring...it's a little cold but not freezing...I get to see the renewal of greenery...blooming flowers....new beginnings...

This is a picture of me at age 2, enjoying the greenery at a park. I edited the photo and printed it on transparency..scraps from Webster's Pages, some tulle (a current favourite), flowers, stickers, a little handstiching, brown distress inks, glimmer mist/masking..

I'm playing along with These are a few of my favorite things...the challenge is to scrap about your favourite room...mine is sort of a "room"...a little potted garden in the condo I used to stay...a beautiful patio space that opens up to the pool. I spent hours here, potting and landscaping...My first garden..:)

I'm sorry for the photo quality...it's so hard to photograph the portion where I cut off the back of the paper to create a frame with baby blue tulle...the tulle was scrunched up to create a 3D effect and the mini photos were attached to the tulle by 3D dots...it has a pop-out effect which you can't really tell by the photo.
