Friday

Friday's Florals - today's quick five-minute play with watercolours

Happy Friday friends! Still haven't quite got back into the daily watercolour florals schedule yet. But did play for 5 minutes today just to share this with you. *winks*

Yes, I like to paint fast, wet in wet (add more colours while the paint is still wet) and without a sketch. Sometimes my flowers are wonky and my leaves are haphazardly placed but for that 5 minutes, I just paint intuitively and enjoy the process.

P/s: It helps that I live in a hot climate...everything dries very fast! :)

Workspace Wednesday - watercolour florals on my desk

Is it the middle of the week already? Here is the piece on my desk this Wednesday morning. I really love the bold and vibrant colours from my Sennelier watercolours.:)

Workspace Wednesday - a messy work-in-progress piece

Just sharing my workspace on a Wednesday - a messy work-in-progress piece. I hated what I painted and decided to just blur everything out for the dreamy wet-in-wet look which I hadn't done in a while. I'm thinking it needs some finishing touches...or maybe I'm done with this piece? Decisions, decisions, decisions. *winks*

Hope you are having a great Wednesday friends. :)

Mixed Media Monday - more fun experimenting

50/100

Now that I'm working on a different substrate (100% cotton), I've been having fun exploring how different mediums work on it. Like this one, I drew 3 of the blooms in coloured pencils and then painted the others in watercolour for a fun mix of texture. :)

51/100

Then I tried the bokeh effect with a mix of watercolours and gouache.

52/100

This one took a long time because I drew and coloured in the blooms with coloured pencils. Super labour-intensive even though I found it very therapeutic. Then I did the background in watercolours and finished off with white and black paint markers. These are the kind of flowers on a patterned paper that I want to fussy-cut. *LOL*

53/100

I find myself gravitating to this style the most. It's abstract and loose. And done in a couple of minutes. Watercolours, gouache and paint markers.

P/s: Still behind in returning blog visits. Must have overworked the right wrist again because it hurts when I engage in any repetitive action. The left hand/arm is bearing most of the load now....which is in line with one of my goals for 2022 - to be more ambidextrous. *winks*

Thursday

Sharing the next lot of mixed media floral pieces from #the100dayproject

21/100

Every year I tell myself not to get behind in #the100dayproject because it's quite stressful to play catch-up while still trying to work on your daily piece. And yet, here we are again.

22/100

Of course, there's the added "stress" of using different mediums, styles and composition to really stretch my creativity. *winks*

23/100

The struggle. *sad music plays in the background* This piece had so many layers of paint/wet media on it because the gal refused to "waste" paper. *LOL*

24/100

I wanted to work with a limited colour palette but this one is missing a focal point....

25/100

Tried the ink and wash technique in reverse because I didn't feel like adding more colour layers to the flowers. This was surprising quick. Must revisit this technique again.

26/100

Of course I had to do the "bokeh" effect...super fun!

27/100

Finally got my gouache set out to play!

28/100

Had to paint some cherry blossoms after seeing them last week...:)

29/100

Really got into the pinks.

30/100

Rounding out the lot with some bright bold blooms.

Mixed Media Monday - more abstract florals for #the100dayproject

7/100

So playing catch-up on #the100dayproject is hard to do. I'm just trying to paint in-between little pockets of time I do have. But I really like bold abstractions...which are fast to do.

8/100

When I try to go soft and sweet, it doesn't really work for me.. *winks*

9/100

And when I really fluff around with the details, it gets progressively worse. *LOL*

10/100

Messy with bold colours is what I like and what feels natural to me.

P/s: Happy week ahead friends! :)

Wednesday

Workspace Wednesday - watercolour abstract florals

I have been really good so far with the watercolour practice....3 days in a row! *high fives all around* This was this morning's 20 minute messy practice. :)

Just saw that this year's #the100dayproject will be staring on February 13. Not sure what I want to do this year though...should I do watercolour florals? Or portraits? So far, I've only successfully completed the challenge 2x and both times, I did mixed media eye paintings/drawings.

Any suggestions for something fun that I could do for 100 days without getting bored (and losing momentum)?
