This year's mooncake box

This year marks the second year in a row that we have a really scaled-down sale of mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival because of the ongoing pandemic. Prices are higher and you have to pay extra for the fancy boxes with the drawers/ unique box designs. Plus you are not allowed to sample the products. So the safest bet is to go with the mooncakes from a 5 star hotel that has a reputable Chinese restaurant.

Meet the Yam family's first box of mooncakes for 2021! 

The round tin box has cut-out windows with some lovely bird and bloom designs. And the 4 mooncakes sit on a 2 -tier tray. The mooncakes are individually wrapped for freshness. Yep...you get 4 mooncakes for US$45. The only upside is that each is so rich and decadent that the whole family shares 1 mooncake...and that is enough. *LOL*

And here is the matching paper bag for the box of mooncakes.  The paper bags for mooncakes are specially designed with wide bottoms to fit the box snugly so the box stays put during transportation. 

The paper bag is so pretty! I'm going to fussy-cut the images and use it on a layout. :)

As for the tin box...I was thinking of making it a lantern. How fun! *winks*

Make Stuff Monday - a decorated mooncake box Christmas edition

 

Hello friends! The 2020 Mid-Autumn Festival is just in a few days so I thought it would be apt to showcase a decorated mooncake box featuring my latest obsession - the vintage Santa face that has been the feature of all my recent projects (under 20 Santa faces to go...*happy dance*). 

I started with this cardboard mooncake box which I had been reluctant to decorate because the design on the cover glows in the dark! 

In case you were curious, the box has a pull-out drawer.

I actually don't have that many whole 12x12  sheets of Christmas patterned papers left in my stash so I just added some pink elements on the cover to coordinate with the pink reindeers on the sides of the box.

I went with a mix of stickers, fussy cut elements, chipboard and washi tape. 

And added some bling sequins and gold stickles.

I intend to fill it up with sweet treats. :)

A quick makeover of a mooncake box

 

This year's Mid-Autumn Festival is on October 1st...and you know what that means....mooncake boxes to decorate! But I have to confess that I have a few undecorated ones lying around, conveniently used as storage boxes until they can be "prettified". *winks*

It is a solidly constructed mooncake box meant to be a jewellery box for the recipient after he/she devours the mooncakes inside. Of course, it came to me minus the mooncakes courtesy of a well-meaning friend who knew I would appreciate the box more than the mooncakes. *LOL*

I decided to just keep it simple. I cut patterned paper for the sides of the box and the top (which had the brand of the mooncake company), ran the pieces through my Xyron Creative Station for an even layer of adhesive. Then just adhered it to the box. I added pearl trim to the top of the box and finished with a bloom.
