Having a blast...

My littlest nephew. At the playground. Having a blast. Just love the look of pure bliss on his face! :)

I tried my guest Erin's faux letterpress technique with a Sizzix embossing folder...can you spot it? And just added some fun Gauche Alchemy embellishments to finish the layout. I used the sketch at Frosted Designs.

Supplies: Echo Park Papers, Sizzix embossing folder, Gauche Alchemy embellishments, black ink, black pen.


P/s: Thanks for the sweet love you left for me on my post A tribute to my darling boy, Joey (pictured, left). He went peacefully with me holding his paw as he took his last breath. He did want to eat one last piece of his fave doggy chocolate. It's been particularly hard on Joey's brother - Chandler (pictured, right). They spent every single day of 14 years together. He's heartbroken. :(

A tribute to my darling boy, Joey.

Today's post is a tribute to my darling boy, Joey. My 14 year old Shih Tzu died last night. :(  In his heyday, he was a bird-chasing dog with a penchant for apples and low tolerance for people who took too long to serve him his meals. He barked whenever I asked "Who's my darling boy?" and he worked hard for a piece of doggy chocolate. While I'm torn over his passing,  instead of mourning, I'm going to celebrate the wonderful memories he left me. Miss you my darling boy.

A mixed media canvas! :)

Hello friends! :) Today I'm sharing a mixed media canvas I did for Gauche Alchemy which features my nephews and niece. :) I glued the story book page and the painted my "scene" with distress stains, inks, paint, crackle paint, stickles and embossing powder.

My bestie took one look at this and said that my proportions are all off....how come the kids have no bodies and have ice-cream sticks as legs?? Nephew #2 said they can't be ice-cream sticks because they are too short to hold ice-cream! I'm sure my bloggy friends know that these are portraits on easels right? *LOL*

There's some old music paper there which I covered with gesso, paint, ink and embossing powder for some awesome texture! :) I was inspired by the Scrapbookers Anonymous challenge to use bling.

Supplies: 12x12 canvas, Gauche Alchemy Acme kit, punchinella, paint, distress stains, distress inks, distress stickles in rock candy, embossing powder, Gauche Alchemy Mixed Media Color Kits, ice-cream sticks, rub-ons, Jenni Bowlin stickers, glossy accents, gel medium.

There's something about woodgrain...

There's something about woodgrain that appeals greatly to me. Love the natural organic feel. :)

I have been looking for a woodgrain background stamp for the longest time. So I was excited when I saw this woodgrain stencil from The Crafter's Workshop. [yes I bought both the 12x12 and 6x6...this girl has been deprived of woodgrain ...and there was 45% off...*LOL*]

All I did was add some pretty lace from Gauche Alchemy's Lace Ribbon Variety Pack, burlap, an ice-cream stick and a faux bird....The lace was stapled on , the bird had a wire that was wound around the hole I punched in the ice-cream stick and the whole thing was attached using a big brown round brad. So the recipient can detach the pretty bits and use them on another project.

I now have toy parts to add to my creations! :)

So, nephew #2 is pretty destructive and I now have toy parts to add to my creations! The wheels were taken off a broken tractor. The wheels were a tad too small for the Bows and Berries Halloween Ride digi so I did a little fussy-cutting. A little masking and inking with Tim Holtz masks and distress ink in black soot.

Faux letterpressing with Erin Thiem! :)

My guest today is sweet Erin Thiem of Homemade Cards by Erin. I love Erin's clean and simple approach to cardmaking. Her cards are always fun and fresh with just the right amount of embellishments and texture to put a smile on your face. I love that she really maximizes the use of her dies, embossing folders and stamps in her creations to create her own patterned paper. Today she's sharing a faux letterpress technique using an impression/embossing plate. She's also hosting an awesome challenge with a cool prize for one lucky winner! :)

Let's look at Erin's creations using the faux letterpress technique!

Hi, I'm Erin and I'm super excited to be a guest designer on Yvonne's blog.  I'm a card challenge junkie and I've loved being able to experiment with different technique and styles through her Do More With Less challenges.  I live in Northern California with my husband and 2 young sons.  We own a motel called the Outside Inn, www.outsideinn.com, and when I'm not hiding in my messy craft room I'm usually at work either doing laundry or dealing with whatever crisis comes up.  I have been card blogging for a year and a half and have been thrilled to discover a fabulous community of other like minded people who share the same passion of paper as I do.  I can't wait to see what you come up with this technique.

1. Get out an impression plate or embossing folder.

 

 

2. Ink up the plate or  embossing folder and sandwich as you would in your die cut system.

3. Sandwich as you would in your die cut system.

4. Let paper dry, wipe plate or folder clean with baby wipe (or rise with warm water and soap if need be). 

 

4. Use faux letter press paper in some fabulous crafty project.

The art of eating ice-cream

 

 Apparently one has to be schooled on the art of eating an ice-cream cone....at least my nephew O. My sister had to go buy a cone to "demonstrate" the finer points of licking...*LOL*

Supplies: Simple Stories patterned paper and stickers (all from Your Scrapbook Stash), Maya mist, paper piercer, brown pen.
