I love Japanese food...do you? There's this restaurant I go to every month for their Kaiseki course...yum...I get a little of everything that is fresh and in season..excellent sashimi..:) .
Love these "old" Sassafras papers...used some felt and ribbon...a little masking for my title work (paint and sponge), handstitching (around the title), faux stitching (white pen), some brads along the ribbon border.

Grandparents
Supplies: Patterned paper: Websters' Pages (base), K & C0 (photo mat), Stamps: Inkadinkado, Chipboard letters: American Crafts, Others: Ribbon, buttons, paper flowers, lace.
This months's challenge at Scrap Inspire Create is up! It is a fun pick & mix challenge where you choose a theme and pick an item from each of the DT member's list. My layout features my maternal grandparents in one of the few studio shots they took together. I kept close to my theme of vintage and chose lace, ribbon, buttons and stamping...I stamped those birds in the background...the "lone" button is actually 2 buttons layered on top of each other....I tried the pleated ribbon technique...it wouldn't stay down so I handstitched it to the paper...which took forever...it didn't occur to me to iron the pleats until after....so silly of me...lol.
*Edited* I won the challenge at Create with this layout! :) Pin It

So fun

The August challenge over at Scrap Inspire Create is up! This month, the challenge is to incorporate ATCs (2.5 X 3.5) creatively onto your layout. Except for the base paper, the rest of the supplies were from scraps...ATCs are really great for using the small bits of paper...:) So fun! And green too!
My layout features my 3 adorable nephews...the youngest is 4 months old and can't sit up by himself yet...can you see that he's leaning on his big brother? He laughs a lot but when I whip out my camera, he just stares at it...oh well, at least he looks directly at the camera...:)
I love the bright colours on the Scenic Route base paper..and basically just picked out colours from my scrap stash to match, put them together on the ATCs and then handstitched...yes it took a lot of time...but I find poking holes in paper and stitching them up strangely therapeutic.

The challenge for July's Scrap Inspire Create is up! This month's challenge is to alter a clipboard and turn it into a decor piece. So much fun! I painted my clipboard, decoupaged my nephew's drawing (which serves as patterned paper), added a ribbon border & some tag stickers...I kept it relatively flat because I still wanted it to function as a clipboard...:)

These boys are amazing

The June challenge at Scrap Inspire Create is up! This month's challenge is to scrap about "Parenthood". My layout celebrates the joys of "aunthood" . Perhaps it's because I see these boys only once a week but I really enjoy the fun that we have together. A chance for my brother & his wife to spend time away from the kids (mostly in the living room playing mahjong with my parents) and my chance to play the role of a parent (without the stretch marks)...:) We engage in numerous activities including role-playing, reading, drawing, painting, watching cartoons, napping... I don't spend enough time with them to be bored by them..lol...And everything I make gets the thumbs up from them (especially if it features pics of them)...my own fan club!
I used only scraps for this LO...tied them together using faux stitching. You can tell by my last few LOs that I'm very into using a white pen these days...lol...it's an economical and time-saving way to create dimension. You must give it a try! These pinwheels are really fun to make...great way to make use of paper scraps. Just cut 3 x 3 inch squares, cut them diagonally and fold them in. Works really well for double-sided papers.
Remember to join in the fun! Pin It

A Blast From The Past!

My mother's past, that is...;)
May's challenge over at ScrapInspireCreate is up! This month's challenge is A Blast From the Past. You have to scrap an old photo with some vintage elements. The deadline is midnight, 31 May 2009 (+8GMT).
I was psyched to have found this old photo of my mother with her colleagues back in the 70s before I was born. Many have said that I'm a replica of my mother. Can you spot her in the photo?

March/April Challenge at Scrap Inspire Create!

The March/April challenge at Scrap Inspire Create is up. There are 2 challenges this month.
The first challenge is to incorporate tearing & stitching. The second challenge is to use cupcake cups in your LO.
I did the second challenge incorporating the cupcake cup with the title of my LO. This layout was done on a 12x12 acrylic piece. I used a template to cut out the shape on patterned paper, then used white paint along the border (to create depth without the bulk). The edges of the acrylic piece was inked with Stazon (may not be apparent from the pics).

I stitched along the circumference of the cup, then used some puffy stickers and thickers to form the title. I also added some felt leaves.

The edges of the pictures were sanded to create a border. Journaling strips were printed on white cardstock and cut into strips. I outlined the strips with a brown pen.
Check out what the rest of the creative crew (Yatie, Janiah and Eirnna) did with the challenges here. The challenges are open till the end of April so do join in the fun! Pin It
