My Zeus and Zoe journey...

Mixed-media-canvas-for-Zeus-and-Zoe

Hello there friends! It's bittersweet as I share my very last Zeus and Zoe project [Click for tutorial.] I've certainly enjoyed working with items I may not have picked out for myself. You know that I'm not particularly adept at working with girly stuff like blooms and trims...but I think I winged it this year. *winks*

White space makes an impact

Zeus-and-Zoe-party-card

When you want to create impact on your card, consider incorporating "white space". In white. :)

When the main canvas is so "clean", your eyes immediately search for colour. That's where you cluster your textured elements for maximum impact.

This card was a design team project for Zeus and Zoe

Yum....Gelli Plate print on a mixed media layout

Yum-mixed-media-layout

Hello friends! Just wanted to share my latest mixed media layout for Zeus and Zoe.

The background design was created with some Crafter's Workshop masks and paint on a Gelli Plate printed on watercolour paper. LOVE the print! Yum indeed! *winks*

Went a little crazy with the Golden gold mica flakes on the fish charms...they look sad because their "scales" are sooooooo heavy! *LOL*

The Westin Sydney

The-Westin

Living on a tiny island, I'm always sad when old buildings and shophouses get pulled down completely to make way for contemporary skyscrapers. So I was really delighted when I stayed at The Westin Sydney back in July. The luxurious hotel is built at the historic General Post Office - love how they restored the old building structure and made it even better.

It was fabulous to have breakfast while admiring the lovely architecture.

So the design team at Zeus and Zoe are challenged to work on the theme "steamy chic" this month - incorporating steampunk with shabby chic goodness.

It was one of those layouts that started out simple, then just exploded! 8.5 x 11 is such a small space! *LOL*

Decorating a pillow box...

Upcycled-pillow-box

You know how much I love decorating boxes. I tend to get more dimensional on my altered projects than on my layouts [because I prefer them relatively flat in albums!]. *winks*

I started with this pillow box that used to house some Tim Holtz embossing folders [yeah...I'm wondering too if I've ever used them...*LOL*]

After choosing patterned papers, I cut them to size and ran the pieces through my Xyron 5" Creative Station. The pillow box is curved so having an even distribution of adhesive really helps to stick it down well. :)

Then comes my fave part....picking out embellishments to decorate my pillow box. Lots of yummy goodness from the Zeus and Zoe store. :)

The key to creating an interesting embellishment cluster is to mix textures and colours. The possibilities are endless! :)

A not-so-secret obsession with lace...

Lovebirds-mixed-media-canvas

Well my friends, you know that when I'm obsessed with something, I just have to use it over and over again. This month it just might be lace...*winks*

The lace was from an old dress [can you see the seam?]. I started with scrunched up wrapping tissue for the base of the canvas then adhered the lace with matt gel medium. Then, I coloured with Neocolor II watersoluble crayons, misting with water to blend the colours.

I painted the chipboard with lots of glazes and mediums for textures.

Then I went crazy with the Zeus and Zoe gold buttons. I finished with PearlEx for an overall sheen. :)

P/s: Just a few more days to play along with my guest Lisa's shaped card challenge!

A pretty upcycled tin...

Upcycled-tea-tin-for-Zeus-and-Zoe

I love the look of pretty tins to store little knick knacks. :) All you need is some pretty patterned papers and embellishments like these from Zeus and Zoe.

The papers had some glitter on them....I added some glossy accents for a little more dimension and interest. Now, I'm going to use it to store some pretty embellishments..:)
P/s: Happy weekend my friends! If you have time, consider playing along with my guest Lisa's shaped card challenge and LESSology Challenge #28: Open that bottle!.

Mixed media canvas with vintage tag

Zeus-and-Zoe-mixed-media-canvas

Hello friends! :) Today I'm sharing a mixed media canvas I created for Zeus and Zoe. It was one of those projects that turned out totally different from what I had envisioned in my mind's eye...like most of my projects...*LOL*

I started with a wrapping tissue base then added some lace and trim on my 8x8 canvas. I used some spray mists from Lindy's Gang but the colours were a little too subtle for me so I decided to add texture with a little glass bead gel. And then gold paint...and mediums....[you know about my gold obsession, right? *winks*]

Just when it seemed like all was lost in gold lala land, I remembered this beautiful vintage tag that was in my Zeus and Zoe DT package....

With the tag as my focal point, I added some pearls and blooms and embellishments...and my canvas actually looks pretty! Yay! *High fives all around*

P/s: Just want to share some awesome design team news.:)

How to make pretty blooms...a blog hop featuring handmade bloom tutorials!

How-to-make-a-pretty-bloom-tutorial4

Hello there friends! The team at Zeus and Zoe have put together a fun little blog hop featuring pretty handmade bloom tutorials. :)  Mine is the topping on a tin box. :)

If you love the look of pretty blooms, why not hop along with us and learn along the way? There are RAKs to be won at every stop [mine is at the very end of this post *winks*]. :)

My bloom is super simple to make. Here are the supplies you require...some trims, pearls, button, fabric scissors, sewing kit and a hot glue gun.

1. Start by pleating your trim and stitching...pulling to create a round shape.
2. When you are happy with the size, stitch the ends together. No worries if your thread can be seen, it would be covered up later.

3. Cut an embroidered bloom from your trim. There are many other alternatives for this layer...you could add a punch out paper bloom or even a layer of tulle.
4. Affix with a hot glue gun.

5. Add pearls with a hot glue gun.
6. Finish with a lovely gold button...mine is from the Zeus and Zoe store of course!

Add it to a tin box and it makes a fabulous handmade gift! :)

Go check out the other pretty bloom tutorials....Dana TatarDenise van DeventerMarivic CliftonNorma GomezRiikka Kovasin, Zeus and Zoe blog and leave some love on each of the blogs by 11.59pm EST on Wednesday 31st July for your chance at each of the RAKs.

Here is my RAK. Just leave a comment on this post. The winner will be announced on Friday August 2. :)
