A magical mixed media canvas

A-magical-mixed-media-canvas

There's something magical about mixed media.

How seemingly disparate objects can come together in harmony.

Like this mixed media media canvas. Which started with a mish mash of remnant lace and ribbon. The magic came into play after a few coats of white gesso and shimmering mists....

And of course, when all the pretty little embellishments were added...:)

The story of a girl and her fairy costume...a tutorial

The-story-of-a-girl

So the niece didn't play dress-up for 8 weeks....and was so happy to be reunited with her fairy costume. :)

I wanted to mimic the fairy costume so I went with tulle, vellum and butterflies..and a lot of shimmer.

Playing along with 13 Arts. Please scroll down for a short tutorial on how I created this layout.

___________________________________________________

The background was created by mixing Dylusions mist into Liquitex light modeling paste and spreading it with The Crafter's Workshop stencil on DCWV textured cardstock. [Yes, the Dylusions ink gets toned down a lot when mixed into modeling paste...and goes from a bright neon pink into a saccharin sweet pink! :)]

Mat the photos on vellum, then adhere to cardstock.

Embellish with tulle, lace, butterflies and bling.

Then I added some Jo Sonja glitter paint for all-over shimmer. And added my journaling directly on the photo.

Super easy and quick. :)

Vintage lace over a mixed media background

Create-mixed-media-canvas

Sometimes one can get stuck in a rut when working with the same surface. Not sure if you've noticed, but I tend to start my canvases with scrunched up wrapping tissue...like 90% of the time. *LOL*

I love the look of canvas but it's a little too "flat" for my liking. The scrunched up wrapping tissue adds that bit of texture and you can still see the canvas texture underneath.

Here I coloured the scrunched up wrapping tissue + gessoed base with metallic Faber Castell gelatos, then layered come vintage lace over. I love the dreamy result of the background which shimmers when you look at the canvas at an angle. :)

After that, I just went a little crazy with the embellishments from my "save-it-for-a-rainy-day" stash. :)

I may have a new fave colour combo...

Coral-mixed-media-canvas

It pays to reorganize your craft supplies...when you find new "old" stash! *winks* I found a tub of pretty coral paint. :)

Coral, white and silver may be a new fave colour combo! :)
Playing along with the gift challenge at 13 Arts. I used gift-wrapping tissue.

*Edited* This canvas was placed 3rd at 13 Arts.

Nothing like some girly time...

Hello-sunshine-mixed-media-layout

I've been enjoying the girly time I spend with my niece....she loves to look at my stash and proceeds to tell me which are the ones that are "pretty"....The other day, she entertained herself by playing with my lace and trims for an hour! *LOL*

When she's happy, I get to take photos of us...*winks*

I used two masks - one with mists and one with fiber paste.

Playing along with the colour and stencils challenge at 13Arts.
P/s: Are you one of our winners in the Let's Get Trendy Now!3 challenges?

*Edited* I won the challenge at 13 Arts. :)
