This gratitude page was about the lovely boutique hotel I got to stay at when I was in Hanoi. It was a lovely place and in a great location (like a 3 minute walk from my fave spa!) and the service was great.
I could overlook the minor problems of having to pay to use the sauna and that I could swim the whole length of the pool in one breath (it was really small). But the food was really really bad. At first I thought it was because it was the packed breakfast (had to leave for morning appointments before in-house breakfast started) but it was worse when I could actually dine in. They couldn't even get the French toast right. Or the eggs.
What are your deal-breakers when choosing a hotel to stay in?

I'm glad that you still are grateful for a hotel that disappointed you in different ways. Life is better when you look for the positives. I don't have too many deal-breakers for hotels (beyond cleanliness and safety, obviously) but I've been disappointed by breakfasts many times. I'm also annoyed when there are no options to take the stairs. I hate waiting for elevators, so unless I've above the 5th or 6th floor, I want to take the stairs. That's not always possible, which bugs me.
