Workspace Wednesday - a reworked piece

 

So I went through some of my earlier watercolour practice pieces from last year to see if I could salvage any of them and actually use them in my revamped gallery wall. 

This was ONE of the pieces that I was pretty proud of about a year ago but cringed when I saw it with different eyes days ago *LOL* Not that I'm that much better after a year but rather I got better at spotting the areas that need work! *winks*

I went in with MORE watercolours, gave more "depth" to the flowers, added more leaves to improve the overall composition and added paint splatters for added visual interest. I finished with coloured pencils because I like the texture they create on the cold-pressed watercolour paper.

This piece is now more reflective of my current style. :)

Thursday's Workspace - attempting some flowers in a mug

 

Happy Thursday friends! On my desk today - some flowers in a mug. The mug was a little challenging since it was my first attempt at painting it. And of course, I basically eyeballed it instead of doing a proper sketch first. *LOL*

I think it looks decent if you squint a little. *hahaha*

Mixed Media Monday - the overworked vase of blooms

 

Cam you tell that I might have overworked this vase of blooms a little? Too much...*LOL*

Yep, I had vase and leaves problems and did my best to "cover up". *winks*

I went in with white gouache and gel pen...

It looks somewhat decent from a distance..hahaha.

Anyway, I know it's because I was sitting when I was painting. I always paint better when I stand.

What? Is it Friday already? This was one of those weeks that just flew by and there was just so much to do! Did manage to sneak it a morning practice session today. I played with bright happy colours and just let them bleed into each other...not every practice needs to yield a masterpiece. *LOL*

Mixed Media Monday - tulips in a jar painting

 

In today's Mixed Media Monday - I'm sharing a tulips in a jar painting that I did just today. It started off as a morning practice piece. Then I had some pockets of time in the afternoon and just "finished" it while listening to a science podcast. 

I'm really enjoying my new desk by the window for painting in natural light. It's so lovely to not have to clear your desk to do your other work. *winks*

Hope you are doing well in your neck of the woods. Tighter restrictions are back in place here with social gathering sizes reduced from 5 to 2. The COVID fatigue is real. I've been keeping my home-cooked meals a lot more simple. And devoting every extra bit of time I have to self-improvement. If I'm going to be stuck at home, I'm going to maximise that time and work on being a better version of myself.

So here is my first attempt at an abstract seascape watercolour painting. Yep, I might have been a bit overzealous with the white splatters. But it was super fun.  :)

I have been enjoying the #artfulaugust challenges so far even though I've missed a couple and need to play catch-up. Here is Day 19: Bird. Yeah, I can't believe it either - my first normal-sized bird! *LOL*

An attempt at an abstract cityscape with reflections

 

Here is my attempt at an abstract cityscape with reflections using watercolours. It came together quite quickly (20 minutes) using the wet in wet technique with an old credit card, a big flat brush to wet the paper, a water spritzer to add more water and a rag to soak up the excess water. Super fun and extremely therapeutic. Give it a go! :)

Mixed Media Monday: Playing along with the prompts for #artfulaugust - first 3 projects

 

So I saw one of my IG friends playing along with the #artfulaugust prompts and decided that I wasn't that far behind to actually play along. Have to play a bit of catch-up though. Here are the 3 projects I completed so far....

Day 7: Tree. 

Day 8: Bold.

Day 9: Water.

Yep...I decided to try painting stuff that I had not tried painting before...as an additional challenge to myself. People have a bucket list of places to visit, mine is a list of stuff to learn to draw and paint. *winks*

Recent watercolour floral painting practice pieces

 

Hello friends! Just wanted to share recent watercolour floral painting practice pieces with you today. 

I mean it was a total obsession for me in the month of July. I was doing at least ONE a day and three or four on the weekends. You know how I get when I'm obsessed right? Yep, full immersion. *LOL*

Some were borderline decent till almost the end when I tried to do too much. And totally ruin them. Let's not see those. Let's just have a look at those work-in-progress shots that might look like potential masterpieces shall we? *winks*

Some are actually incomplete because I messed up somewhere and might just go in with other mixed media supplies to "save" them later.

Some looked like a kid's crayon drawing...because I went a little colour-crazy.

For some, the composition was a little "off" and I didn't know how to actually "finish".

But ultimately it was about having fun and I did! *triumphant music plays in the background*

I really enjoy doing abstract floral paintings because they can be done fast and there's a messy artistic quality to them.

Happy Friday friends! Here is Friday's abstract florals for this week. Still struggling to stay "loose" and just let the paint and water flow and dry for the "abstract" look. *winks* The part I like is how quick the process is .... just 15 minutes.  :)
