The mixed media canvas madness continues...

Mixed-media-canvas-for-Lynnda

So you know my latest obsession is working on mixed media canvas....it's very therapeutic to throw paint and medium on a canvas and look at it the next day with fresh eyes. :) I know lots of people dry their canvasses with a heat gun but I like mine to dry naturally [okay...you got me...too lazy to take out the heat gun! *LOL*]

Making a little dent in the bloom stash department. The glitter you see is Ranger Distress Stickles in Rock Candy....my fave glass glitter effect...

The texture here was created with scrunched up wrapping tissue on the base, Golden fiber paste with a Chevron stencil and loads of paint - fuchsia, blue, green, yellow - I dabbed with a rag to remove excess paint...[see how the darker paint colours help to define the wrapping tissue]...I finished with PearlEx mixed with gum arabic for an iridescent finish.

Supplies: Graphic 45 patterned papers, Ranger Distress Stickles in rock candy and distress ink in Victorian Velvet, Golden fiber paste, Crafter's Workshop template, Prima leaves and canvas letters, Claudine Hellmuth gloss medium, Fontwerks stamp, crochet blooms, paint, stick pin, lace, ice-cream stick.

P/s: So I made this canvas for an online bloggy pal I'm meeting for lunch as this post goes live...you think she'll like it? *winks*

Challenged by neutrals.

Make-a-wish

G'day mates! :) You know how much I love colours....so I was significantly challenged by the new challenge up at Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps ... a neutrals challenge...nothing but black, greys, browns, cream and white...

I did some paper piecing to cover up the lack of neutrals I have in my Copic arsenal...*LOL*

Supplies: Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps image- Traveling Josh, Bazzill and GCD Studios patterned papers, Copics, SRM sticker, Ranger distress inks, ribbon, ice-cream stick, brad, brown paper bag.

P/s: So I'm thinking of filling this brown paper bag up with some goodies and giving them away to one lucky reader....what do you think?

Nobody needs to be traumatized by horrible photos, right?

Kungfu?

So nephew #2 doesn't have many scrapbook layouts. He's camera-shy and when he does cooperate, he kind of looks "bleh"...*LOL* Now I'm all for scrapbooking about real life...but nobody needs to be traumatized by horrible photos right?

This layout started with leftover paint from a previous canvas project....all I did was to brush on the paint [fuchsia and white], then while it was still wet, pressed some bubblewrap over for a fun texture. The chipboard letters were initially white...I coloured them with an orange Sharpie to help pull all the colours together.

Playing along with the chipboard challenge at Frosted Designs.

Supplies: Basic Grey patterned papers, Heidi Swapp chipboard, Shapie, Fontwerks stamps, buttons, trim. clothes tag, twine, staple, ice-cream stick, ribbon.

P/s: Come play along with my guest Hussena's challenge. It ends on Friday! :)

Friday

The one where I went a little crazy with the masking and misting. *winks*

The-playground

So I went a little crazy with the masking and misting here. *LOL* But doesn't it scream fun?

Littlest nephew J will gladly take a nap just to go to the playground after...[Or I just make him nap....he's putty to my tummy rub plus rendition of Aerosmith's "I don't want to miss a thing". Seriously. *LOL*]

He goes to sleep thinking about the playground because the first word he says when he wakes up is, "Playground!".

I had so much fun cutting out these animals....and adding googly eyes. :)

I was inspired by the sketch at Skissedilla.

Supplies: October Afternoon patterned papers, Crafter's workshop stencils, Maya mists, EAD Designs stickers, Jenni Bowlin lettet stickers, American Crafts thickers, googly eyes, ribbon, ice-cream stick, buttons, black pen.

P/s: I'll be in Melbourne next week...email me if you want to meet up for a craft jamming/shopping session *winks*.  Meanwhile, have a great weekend friends. I would really love for you to play along with my guest Hussena's challenge and LESSology Challenge #1: Fun with envelopes!

Can I make a card in 10 minutes?

Hello-sunshine-card

I've been seeing my cardmaking pals embark on the 10 Minute Craft Dash challenge and thought to myself...."Hmmmm....shaving off 5 minutes isn't that bad....Challenge accepted!" [Most of my cards take approximately 15 minutes from the scraps off my table]. How wrong I was....*LOL*

Inking and masking swirls on canvas paper: 4 minutes
CraftDash
Cutting canvas paper and rounding corners to fit: 1 minute
Adding bloom, leaves, button, trim and sentiment sticker: 2 minutes

Guess I am done with two minutes to spare but wait, what's that..adhesive? I can't get it off...Argh...there goes 30 seconds...

Scrambling to cover up misshap with lace and swirl: 1.5 minutes

Time taken: 10 minutes!
This must be the shortest 10 minutes ever. *LOL*

I think I even managed a focal point with that pop of green leaves so I'm entering it for Moxie Fab World's focal point challenge. :)

Supplies: Prima paper blooms, Tim Holtz mask, Ranger distress inks, SRM sticker, corner rounder, ribbon, trim, button, leaves, canvas paper and cardstock.

P/s: This card was picked as a fave in the 10 minute craft dash challenge! :)

5 fun things to use on your projects.

As you know, I'm a huge fan of found objects around the house [though sometimes it might be someone else's house...*LOL*].....they are such fun things to use on your projects. :)  Here are 5 fun things to use on your projects...

Whatcha doing

1. The wooden Japanese toothpick.

I love that the wooden Japanese toothpick is broad enough for me to add stickers to it. :) Add a little ribbon tab and it serves as a nice photo corner embellishment. :)

Hello card

2. Soda can.

Cut up a soda can and emboss it for a cool, reflective element on your project.

Are you a model tag

3.Tab pulls.

Instead of punching holes for you ribbon, consider using tab pulls as a cool alternative.

The-sweetest-bookworm-princess

4. Bottlecap.

Bottlecaps make such great embellishments. Here I used mine as a photo mat for one of my round photos [I used stickers for the other two photos]. It adds dimension and a little pop. You can also fill it with little beads and buttons for a custom embellishment. :)

7x9 wedding canvas

5. A charm from a keychain.

Consider adding a little heart charm from a keychain as a fun embellishment for your layout. :)

There you have it, 5 fun things to use on your projects. What do you think?

I love working on canvas.

Hanging-with-friends-canvas

I love working on canvas. It makes me feel like an artist...and allows me to "undo" mistakes by painting over them or covering them with patterned papers. :)

The base of the canvas was covered with grunged up wrapping tissue and masking tape around the edges. Then I layered blue, red, yellow and green paint with a spatula. When that dried, I added crackle paint. For some sparkle, I added gold and bronze PearlEx powder.

After hearing your feedback on rub-ons, I went crazy trying to get as many on this canvas as possible. Can you spot them? *LOL*

Supplies: Graphic 45 patterned papers, Basic Grey rub-ons, Ranger crackle paint in rock candy, PearlEx, paint, wrapping tissue, masking tape.

Are you "drowning" in scraps like I am?

Just-a-note

Hello friends. Are you "drowning" in scraps like I am? *LOL* How about gathering them and creating a fun little "scene" like I did?

Love how paper tearing can add such nice texture [and help salvage odd-shaped scraps]...and googly eyes are always fun!

I also made a dent in my "save-it-for-a-rainy-day" cardboard stash by making a pocket folder.:)

Supplies: Basic Grey patterned papers, MT tape, EAD Designs stickers, 7 Gypsies gaffer tape, twine, buttons, ribbon, cardboard, googly eyes.

I've been enjoying the process of colouring images...

Relax-and-enjoy-card

Of late I've been enjoying the process of colouring images. It's really therapeutic and a way to do something creative without the need to pull out a million craft supplies [I'm sure you know what I mean...*winks*].

The downside to it is that I've been staring at people in public places. A lot. Seeing how the light hits their skin and hair so that I can colour them better. *LOL* And watching lots of YouTube videos on colouring.

Supplies: Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps image: Suitcase Ruby, Graphic 45 patterned papers, Ranger distress inks, Jenni Bowlin pearls, SRM stickers, Copics, brad, lace trim, corner rounder.

P/s: Relax and enjoy your weekend friends. If you have some creative time, come play along with my guest Hussena's challenge and LESSology Challenge #1: Fun with envelopes!

The naughty phase

Naughty

So littlest nephew J is officially into his terrible 3s phase. Naughty beyond a shadow of a doubt. It's spontaneous combustion when he can't get his way....and it's ugly! *LOL*

Does he get his way? Hmmmm....
I usually let him go at it for a minute or so to let him get his frustration out of his system...then he has to stop and tell me what he wants. Since I'm a skilled negotiator, we always end with peace....and sometimes, candy. *LOL*

I used the sketch at Creative Scrappers.

Supplies Basic Grey patterned papers and brad, MT tape, Maya mists, American Crafts thickers, ribbon, button, thread, black pen.
