This week's quick no sentiment card

Hello friends! Today's project is a quick no sentiment card from bits out of the scrap pile. I decided to play with a muted colour palette for this card. :)

The one about my sister's delivery gig

So my sister started her part-time food delivery journey with Food Panda (local food delivery platform) over the weekend. Her way of experiencing the food delivery process, burn some calories on the bike during her free time and getting really familiar with our neighbourhood.

My sister says that it's pretty cool to be cycling around the neighbourhood, get a notification on her phone for a delivery and make $5 en route home. *winks*

Can you tell that I had so much fun with this layout? *LOL*

I threw in some of my travel stash too. Got the approval from my sister ...she said some of the places she had to cycle to were quite far away...up a hill...so her legs got quite a workout!

So happy to get to use up my burger and popsicle chipboards too. :)

Yep, my sister is as much an extrovert as I am an introvert. This is her way of de-stressing when gyms are still closed. I will just be baking and making art. Hahaha!

What about you? Would you try a food delivery gig?

Friday

Friday's mixed media bird

So I'm now working on drawing and painting birds...because I have a gazillion bird photos on my phone from a visit to my local bird park earlier this year. :)

This fellow was sketched in pencil, painted with watercolours and finished with coloured pencils and a white paint pen.

Happy weekend friends!:)

This week's super quick project using bits from the scrap pile

It's been fun challenging myself to work on a quick project every week just using bits from the scrap pile instead of diving into "new" (aka never been used products in my stash) stuff. Yep, working out of the multi-slot single file folder that I store my paper scraps in. One day I will eventually use them all right? *hopeful music plays in the background*

I started off with this sturdy paper bag that I got as a door gift at a Sephora store event.

I found a sheet of partially used patterned paper and cut it down to 2 pieces for the front and back of the paper bag (we need to cover up the brand in case the recipient thinks I am gifting them some pricey skincare...*LOL*).

A piece of doily for some added texture and interest....and some fussy cut bits to create a "scene".

Happy Thursday friends! :)

Workspace Wednesday - the world's ugliest donuts edition *warning*

Brace yourselves my friends. This is a photo that you cannot unsee. *dramatic music plays in the background*

Meet the world's ugliest air-fryer donuts. *LOL*

This, my friends, is real life. My very first attempt at making donuts. And they turned out looking like some kid's play version.

Can I give you a run-through of the dramatic events leading up to this catastrophe?

First of all, I had problems with the dough. I used my stand mixer with a hook attachment but the dough didn't pull away from the bowl to form a "ball". I added more flour and it made no difference. I let the dough rest for a little to let the gluten strengthen before mixing again. There was a slight improvement but the dough was still very wet.  At this point, I decided that I will help it along with some hand kneading. Which worked. I could form it into a cohesive bowl and let it double in size in an hour.

After that I proceeded to roll the dough and cut the donuts with a round cookie cutter. But after they rested for 30 minutes, they got a lot bigger and stuck to each other. So I had trouble getting them apart without "ruining" the perfect rounds. Squish #1. Then of course, my air-fryer basket was really small but I decided to pack 3 donuts and they got further squished in the air-fryer. Squish #2.

I was told to glaze the donuts while they were still warm but they were too hot to handle so I used tongs. Squish #3. And of course, dropped them in the glaze instead of dipping them in the glaze. Shall we blame Murphy's Law?

And that my friends, is the story of how the world's ugliest donuts came to be.

P/s: They were very soft and moist and yummy though. :)

What the Yams ate in April 2021

So I decided to document What the Yams ate in April 2021 on a layout. :)

Can we take a moment to just admire the collective beauty of the food I made? *LOL*

I could finally use the vegetable stickers I've had in my stash! *high fives all around*

And of course, the doilies were strategically placed to cover up the oddly shaped patterned paper I used. *winks*

Also must give a shoutout to my Canon Selphy Square Qx10 printer...LOVE that I can put 4 photos on one photo sticker! Check out how many food photos I have on this 12x12 single page layout! :)

Mixed Media Monday - messy upcycled envelope

Hello friends! Remember the mixed media envelope I was working on last week?  Here is the completed project...all ready to be filled with goodies and shipped off! :)

I added some black ink and white paint splatters to break up the splotches of bright paint colours and add a little more dynamism to the piece. I also stamped the edges for more visual interest.

I added a notecard for the recipient's name and address. It looks really bright white and stark right now. But I've sent enough happy mail to know that if the recipient's name or address is NOT clearly indicated, the postman might use a marker on your package (and ruin your design aesthetic..*winks*).

Some of the design might be covered up by the stamps...but that adds to the design element of the piece as well. My usual postal lady (post office in town) will take the effort to arrange the stamps in an aesthetically pleasing manner before gluing them down for me. No such luck with the postal worker at my nearby post office. I will specifically tell her I want stamps and she will print a label and get upset when I insist on stamps. I mean, I don't need to go the post office for a postal label...we have machines that do that. First world problems. *LOL* Anyway, if you ever receive happy mail from me that has stamps on it, know that I "fought" for them. Hahaha!

Happy week ahead friends! :)

Another week , another food layout spread

May was the month that I cooked the least so far because mum was home from mid-May onwards and we had a lot of take-out due to the promotional offers for takeaways (since we are restricted from dining out in Singapore at the moment).

I did try out some new-to-me recipes (miso cheese garlic bread, banana crepes with salted caramel sauce and wraps) and revisited several old ones (air-fryer wings and pan-roasted chicken breast in burnt butter sauce).

Lots of fussy cutting and stickers! :)

Currently obsessed with the 4 picture layout format on my Canon printer. :)

Workspace Wednesday - mixed media on an envelope

Hello friends! Hope you are having a great week so far. :)

This month I've decided to rekindle my love for mixed media...by playing with highly neglected supplies in my stash. Like this "masterpiece" on an envelope. This was an A4 envelope that I got from the Jo Malone watercolour botanical class (2 weeks ago).  I did some random face-painting on it, hated it and now I'm throwing black gesso and acrylic paint to create a messy abstract background. Hopefully when I'm done, this would go postal with some happy mail in it.

What's on your workspace today?

The one about the prawn peeling service

So apparently the prawn peeling service offered by my sister E in the Yam household is only available for the old (the folks) and the "disabled" (aka nephew #1 with his fractured thumb).

Yep...yours truly had to peel my own prawns. *LOL*

Okay, I had to scrapbook about the fracture first for this prawn peeling layout to make sense for you..*winks* Yep, finally got all the layouts for 2020 done! I left 2 slots for these layouts in the family scrapbook album and the empty slots were driving me nuts! Hahaha!

Definitely had lots of fun using the bits and bobs from my scrap pile. :)

Happy Tuesday friends! :)

Using cardboard packaging on my projects

Using cardboard packaging on my projects

As mentioned previously, I am trying to repurpose any packaging I get these days so that I put less in the recycling bin (especially since only 10% of it actually gets recycled).  Things that catch my eye are pretty designs on cardboard...

Using cardboard packaging on my projects

That I just use like patterned paper on a layout.

Using cardboard packaging on my projects

And text that I can cut out...this was from a fragrance box.

Using cardboard packaging on my projects

Can you spot where I used it?

Using cardboard packaging on my projects

This was the packaging for a  tea cup.

Using cardboard packaging on my projects

For this decorated box project, I actually incorporated both the pink packaging boxes. :)

What about you? Do you incorporate cardboard packaging on your projects?
