Tuesday's eye drawing

So I struggled a lot with this eye drawing. First of all, I went a little crazy over the colours in the iris. And then I added a teardrop...and it was looking all crazy. But I managed to salvage it and it looks maybe okay? *LOL*

Mixed Media Monday - another eye drawing

Happy August friends! July really kicked my butt in terms of time management...and a new month is a fresh start...let's get stuff done! *high fives all around*

I want to draw/paint every single day in August. If time permits, I will work on a large format. If I'm a little pressed for time, like today, I will work in my pocket-size sketchbook. :)

I used Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils and a Uniball Signo White gel pen for this eye drawing.

P/s: What are your plans for August?

Mixed Media Monday - a baby portrait and signing off for the year

Hello friends! I'm sharing mixed media baby portrait today....which I started painting in watercolour back in September but never completed because I was obsessed with watercolour florals. *winks*

It was bugging me so I decided to just finish off the piece with some coloured pencils (they have been neglected for months too).  I think he looks cute...a little startled but cute. *LOL*

A big "thank you" to you for supporting this little blog in 2021. I did try to post on all week days with a few missed days because I was just to tired to post at the end of a long day (yep all posts were in real-time this year instead of scheduling weeks ahead like I used to do..because I was mostly at home). This was a challenging year in terms of time management but I survived! :)

I'll be baking for the rest of the week till Christmas...and then just chillaxing till we bid adieu to 2021. Happy holidays friends! Stay safe! See you in 2022! :)

Friday's mixed media bird

So I'm now working on drawing and painting birds...because I have a gazillion bird photos on my phone from a visit to my local bird park earlier this year. :)

This fellow was sketched in pencil, painted with watercolours and finished with coloured pencils and a white paint pen.

Happy weekend friends!:)

Another week of mixed media eye drawings for #the100dayproject

So I have fallen a little further behind in #the100dayproject but it's for a totally legitimate reason. I overworked the muscles in my dominant arm and now repetitive movements are not ideal for muscle recovery. I have been doing shorter but more frequent sessions to complete each eye drawing versus a single long session. Here is 18/100.

Since the process was taking 3x as long, I decided that my non-dominant arm will have to pick up the slack while the other is recovering. Here is 19/100 which was done mostly using my non-dominant left arm. Can you tell?

For 20/100, I did most of the sketching with my non-dominant arm and used my dominant arm for the finishing touches.

I think my non-dominant arm has been doing a great job....*winks* Here is 21/100.

Happy weekend friends! :)

The other day's girl in my sketchbook

Hello friends! It's almost Christmas! How are your preparations? I've been busy baking cookies all day. Tomorrow will be the fun part of actually decorating them! Yes, it's your gal's first time making decorated sugar cookies. And she intends to give them away as gifts. *winks*

But here's the other day's girl in my sketchbook. I went in with a white gel pen to define her features and I like how she turned out. :)

Happy week ahead friends! :)

Mixed Media Monday - portrait on wood panel #2

Hello friends! This week's portrait on a wood panel is #2 in a series of 3 that I am doing as a Christmas pressie for my dear friend Lizzy. :) Last week I shared portrait #1.

For the last portrait, I started with a sketch in charcoal vine. This time I went in with acrylic paints, marking in my lights and darks. Since I really want to take the opportunity to improve my portrait drawing skills during #the100dayproject2020, I'm also challenging myself to use different mediums to "build" my drawing. :)

Here's a look at the work-in-progress. I work both on a table easel as well as flat on the table surface because the portrait looks different at different angles.

I think the portrait could still do with a little more refining..which I will do before I varnish.

Here is my reference photo...Lizzy's oldest grandboy Lucas.

Here are the 1st and 2nd portraits at the moment. I'm trying to finish up the 3rd one. :)

What do you think?

Mixed Media Monday - portrait on wood panel

Hello friends! This week's Mixed Media Monday is a portrait on a wood panel - just 1 of the 100 portraits I'm hoping to complete in #the100dayproject2020.

The mixed media wood panel is one of a series of 3 which I did previously when I planned to do a triptych and never got round to actually doing it (story of my life *winks*). Anyway, since I had 3 of them, I thought it would be perfect for my pal Lizzy Hill's 3 grandboys from son #1. (Yep son#2 also has a boy...lots of boy portraits coming your way...*LOL*)

I did a rough sketch with a willow charcoal stick...just to ascertain the size and placement of features.

Then I went in with acrylic paints and inks....

I thought that using acrylic paints and inks to paint a portrait would be much faster than using coloured pencils. Which is. In theory. Unless you are me. Any guesses how many times I painted and repainted each eye? *hahaha*

Plus it was challenging to paint on the uneven wood panel that I had previously threw paint and inks all over.

I had fun though. And since I already told Lizzy she would be getting these for Christmas, I have no choice but to complete the other 2 (which I have already started...and clearly repainted a few times ...hehehe).

Here's the reference photo I used. Lizzy recognized Ollie straight away so I think I did okay. What do you think?

Wednesday

A doggy from my sketchbook

So I took a break from the self-portraits and eye drawings to draw a doggy. Isn't he cute? *winks*

When I first started drawing, I did draw a couple of animals but it has been a while. So it was a bit challenging...which you know is totally up my alley. I love going out of my comfort zone because that's when you really learn something new. :)

Of course I didn't do my preliminary sketch using a pencil. I went straight in with coloured pencils. *You know, living on the edge! Hehehe.*

It took a while but I had fun.  :)

What do you think?
