Friday's desk: a sweet decorated envelope

Is it Friday already? It's been an eventful week...as I get into the swing of things in 2024. No big upheavals so far ...so we are getting life done along with some well-deserved "me time". :)

Just a sweet decorated envelope with some bits from recent Christmas happy mail...and a little Stickles action.

Have a great weekend friends!:)

The story about the food I made the day before my trip

So it's always extremely hectic the few days before I travel. I have to bake/prep food so that the Yams "don't starve" the few days I'm away. My mum will say that she will try to cook a few meals so that the family doesn't have to eat the highly-processed takeout food. The last trip I made, she managed to cook ONCE. This time round, they only ate takeout food. *LOL*

The few days prior to my trip I already made a custard tart and blondies. Here was what I made the day before my trip...

1.  Chicken veggie galette for nephew #1's breakfast (exam week). The galette was cut into single portions on baking liners and stored in the fridge. All the kid needed to do was take out a portion and plop it into the airfryer for 5 minutes and he gets a hot breakfast.

2. I also baked 2 loaves of bread for the rest of the Yams to eat with spreads of their choices. For breakfast. But I did make sure there was about 40 eggs in the fridge so that nobody was "starving". *winks*

3. And homemade pasta sauce because the tomatoes were not going to make it till the day I returned home. *hahaha*.

Did I mention that my Monday flight was at 3.30pm? Yep. I even cooked lunch for them before heading for the airport. It was their only non-takeout meal for the week. *dramatic music plays in the background*

This layout came together fairly quickly. The fussy-cut florals were previously cut from a Takashimaya paper bag. I just matted the photos with scrap bits, added stickers, washi tape and fussy-cut bits and finished with some chipboard bits and a ribbon tab for texture.

Happy weekend friends!:)

Another one of my goals in 2022 is....

Two years into mostly staying at home and ordering stuff online have certainly changed my perspective on consumption and the "waste" that comes with said consumption. If you are a regular visitor to my blog over the last decade, you would know that I'm big on recycling, upcycling and repurposing things.

But my recycling/upcycing/repurposing cannot keep up with the rate at which stuff enters my orbit. Pictured is the average number of cardboard boxes that goes into the recycle bin each week. Because I don't have the space to keep everything for "future" projects. (cardboard boxes don't keep well in a hot and humid climate..)

I'm already making the conscious effort to use what I have instead of buying new stuff. From using existing art supplies to wearing clothes already in my closet...

To opting for eco-friendly refills...

To drinking only Nepresso coffee because they collect and recycle the pods.

Still, I ask myself constantly if I'm doing enough for the environment.

So in 2022, my goal is to be a more conscious consumer when it comes to purchasing things that I need/want so that I don't accumulate so much "waste". And to use things that I already own instead of buying a new fancier version. To stop buying things on impulse because it's on sale.

I don't think it will be easy since I love stuff. But I'm going to try. *triumphant music plays in the background*

What about you? Do you have any eco-goals?

Make Stuff Monday - layout using packaging materials

On this week's Make Stuff Monday, I'm sharing a layout using some packaging materials. :) I'm sure you can guess the pieces I've repurposed. :)

Here's a clue. *winks*

And now I'm making it very obvious....hehehe.

You know how I love to fussy-cut. I think the circular shape makes an interesting photo mat. :

The layout features some of the food that are on rotation in our household because everyone loves them.

(L to R: Sticky braised pork ribs in dark soy sauce, steak, salted egg yolk chicken, pan-fried pork loin in tomato sauce, pan-fried bean curd with minced pork, salmon teriyaki)

Lots of random bits from the scrap pile as usual.

Happy week ahead friends!

The last cute animal card from scrap bits

Well, the time has come friends. All good things must come to an end. Presenting...the last cute animal card from scrap bits...*dramatic music plays in the background*

It was fun trying to make different cards using the same few animals and scrap bits.:)

As always, I kept the elements mostly flat to make it postal-friendly.

Happy weekend friends! :)

P/s: Apologies for being so brief in my blog posts and behind in my blog visits. Something unfortunate happened at home and I'm trying to adjust to a new schedule. More details when I'm ready to share. Thanks for your patience! :)

Another cute card from scrap bits

I'm kind of sad that I'm almost out of these cute animals cut out from happy mail bits. But I have loved every moment of stretching my creativity to make each one unique. (I will share them collectively in a future post).

Tearing the edges of the paper adds texture and interest to your creative project and maximises the scrap bits you get to use.

Happy Thursday friends! :)

Happy Monday friends! Today's share is a birthday card using random bits on my desk.

Can you recognise the bits? (bear and notepaper from happy mail, fussy-cut flowers from paper bag)

I know the "scene" is so random but that is how I roll. *LOL*
