Tutorial Thursday- Santa on a milk carton

 

A recent re-organization and declutter of my craft supplies uncovered some hidden "new" gems in my stash...

Like a bunch of these craft milk cartons. Which are perfect since I don't have that many gift boxes to upcycle for Christmas this year.:)

I cut some patterned paper and adhered to the carton.

For a slight contrast, I used the b-side of the patterned paper for the main design panel.

You can see that I did a lousy job cutting the circle out after adhering the patterned paper. What I should have done was trace out the circle, cut the circle out of the patterned paper before adhering the piece to the milk carton. Also, because I did such a lousy job, I decided that ONE circle window was good enough *gal was clearly lazy*. *LOL*

Even though I was going to put a clear window over the circle window, I decided that adding a little bit of washi tape would "cover up" the cut marks in case the carton got scrutinized very closely by the recipient (Yep...any excuse to use my Christmas washi tape...hehehe).

After that, of course, I decided that the clear window needed a glittered frame. :)

And since I only cut out one window, I had an extra clear window panel so I added some gold glitter and made it a shaker Santa milk carton. :)

I finished by adding some fussy-cut elements and stickers.

I think it would be great for holding some candies or cookies. And look nice as a display piece.

Make Stuff Monday - an upcycled gift box

This was one of those projects that came about when I was trying to clear off the stuff on my desk. Surely, it inflicts us all right? You know, the sudden inspiration for a project comes when you are in the middle of reorganizing/decluttering and you just have to work on it immediately? *LOL*

I started with this cardboard box (in case you were wondering what I bought...it is an automated face roller). I love the bright yellow and the fact that there was no obnoxious brand name plastered all over. :)

I went with the only patterned paper lying on my desk- the black and white stripes. Then I found some black and white floral ribbon so I decided to add some texture by pleating and hot-gluing it to the box. For the centerpiece, I cut up an old tag I made previously...and finished off with some birds, a cloud, a sticker quote and went with "hey" because I had some random die-cut letters and that was the only word that made sense. *hehehe*

And here is proof that I really took the random bits off my desk for this project...*hahaha*

I really liked how this turned out. Surely a gift from me should make it "the best day ever" right? *winks*

Make Stuff Monday: Gold Christmas gift box

Hello friends! Today I'm sharing a quick (took longer to photograph the box than the time to decorate it) decorated Christmas box.

I started with the lovely box that my sweet friend Julie sent me. :)

Now I had grandeur plans of adding blooms and bling to the top of the box but decided to go the practical route...and kept the decorations minimal and somewhat flattish so that it is easy to store and transport if needed.

I cut a piece of gold foiled patterned paper and adhered it to the top of the box. Then I used a glittered diecut and layered a vintage Christmas sticker on top of it. I let the sticker cascade over the sides of the box to make it look more "sophisticated" than it actually was. *winks*

I finished the box by gluing some bling for some dimension and interest.

A quick upcycled Christmas gift box

So the other day my sister happily passed me 3 of these cute empty cardboard boxes.

"I know you like empty boxes." she said.

"Eh...no. I like to upcycle boxes. But I would prefer them with gifts in them actually." I replied.

*LOL*

Oh well. The box is perfect for little Christmas gifts....like a mug with a hot chocolate + marshmallow pack. :)
