I love the effect of stencils and mediums on cards. Here are 10 mixed media card ideas! :)
1. Skip the patterned paper.
Sometimes the thought of having to match your mediums to your patterned paper scraps can be so off-putting. So, just play with mediums and embellishments.
The tone-on-tone background [light modeling paste with Prima mask on white cardstock] serves as your "patterned paper" in a subtle way. The gold embellishments coordinate without being too matchy matchy. And the red bloom, green leaves and bling embellishment cluster just draws the eye to the focal point.
2. Try a little neon.
Too much neon can be a little scary. Use them in small doses for maximum impact.
A little texture with the corrrugated cardboard, pops of fun colours and patterned with the washi tape and a masked/misted backdrop for the focal point.
3. Go geometric
I love the abstract backgrounds created by residual mists. Add a little fiber paste with a geometric pattern stencil. The fiber paste dries to a semi-translucent finish for a cool textured background.
4. Mix up the textures.
Pull the colours from the background and throw coordinating embellishments in various textures...washi tape, feather, crochet bloom, pearls, sequins...for a unified look.
5. Let your embellishment cluster take center stage.
Create a statement by creating an embellishment cluster in the centre of your card.
6. Draw inspiration from stickers and washi tape.
The colours of the bold paint drips were pulled from the washi tape and sticker strip.
7. Use "white space" as a design element.
Apply light modeling paste with a stencil, spritz a little silver mist and create an embellishment cluster on top of it. The misted/textured background provides a shadow effect for embellishment cluster and the "white space" draws the eye to it.
8. Go for controlled mediums.
Too intimidated to try misting and splattering? Use crackle paints you can brush on and glitter glues on specific areas on your card.
9. Try a little wrapping tissue.
Scrunched up wrapping tissue creates incredible textures while remaining relatively flat. And when you spray mists, the inks seep between the creases and folds in really cool and unexpected ways.
10. Echo the patterns.
The round fabric button and the floral charm mimic the misted stencil print for a cohesive pulled together look.
