This is the card I made from my scraps from a previous project based on Card Patterns Sketch 12. Some masking and a little stamping. I'm in love with Prima flowers..:) Was late on the uptake but now realize why so many people love Prima flowers...:) Pin It

The Journey Begins - OLW/Scrapping out loud challenges

I love this photo of my oldest nephew S, carrying his newborn baby brother, J. He was so excited about being a big brother, telling me how he was going to take care of the baby. It is heartening to see how he has grown and evolved in a few short years.

This layout incorporates the challenge at Scrapping out loud which is to follow a grid pattern and also encompasses the word "Journey" from One little word. The title of the layout and the journaling is just a single line - "The journey begins." I didn't want to detract from the poignant photo and the line sums up exactly how I feel.


Some sanding and inking on the photo. A little fun with my new Tim Holtz mask with distress inks over canvas paper - amazing textured effect! I am so in love with Prima flowers! I often wondered why people raved about Prima flowers...now I know...they are so easy to use and add interest and dimension to a page without being too overwhelming. Well, better late than never! Are you a fan of Prima flowers?

Scrapping the music challenge - Made to Love

My Cookie girl...back in 1996 when she was 18 months old. Such a cutie, eh? How apt for the song of the week, Made to Love at Scrapping the music...I miss my dog. She passed away 2 months ago :(.

I am loving the Tim Holtz mask, along with distress inks and glimmer mist..And I couldn't resist the birdcage paper (even though I'm trying to cut down on paper!!). And I'm really into butterflies these days...got these lovelies at a craft store in Bangkok.


Cookie loved to be outdoors, in the garden, soaking up the sun, chasing the birds and butterflies. Pin It

Crafts 4 eternity challenge - How about a hug my good friend card

I'm participating for the first time here at Crafts 4 eternity. The challenge is to use pink, brown and green based on the sketch provided. I'm always out to recycle and the felt bear (blanket stitches along the perimeter) was "saved" from old jammies...so sad to have thrown them away:( ..the bear is just too cute right?

For the love of movies...Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge

Following my previous post on my love of all movies (except horror), this is the card I made for the challenge over at Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge. I love movies with animals in them, especially the animated ones. I have a fascination with giraffes so if the movie has a giraffe in it, I'd probably love it..haha...yeah..I have a collection of patterned paper with giraffes..No prizes for guessing that I love the zoo either...I always visit the giraffes..:)...So, why did I use lions on this card? Because the movie this week is The Lion King...also, I'm saving my giraffe stickers :). Have you seen this movie? For the love of movies...Category Stories challenge

I am a big movie buff. Are you? Somehow, the prospect of being a part of somebody's "reelity" for 90 minutes or more is terribly appealing to me. Not that my life is that drama-free (more on that in another post...*grins*). I think I've learned a lot from movies. From romantic one-liners to high-speed car chases, I love'em all. Except HORROR. I never watch horror. I read horror books but I never watch horror movies. I was totally creeped out by The Ring (the original Japanese version) and I couldn't bear to watch tv for a couple of days...just in case something climbed out from my tv set...haha...

Anyway, the challenge over Category Stories is "Going to the movies"...fabulous! Here are some closeups...

Scrapping the music challenge - This is me

The challenge over at Scrapping the Music this week is the song, "This is me". The design team did a great job interpreting the challenge. You can see their layouts here. Powerful lyrics alluding to the importance of believing in oneself..."this is the real, this is me"..."no more hiding what I want to be"..

As usual, I utilized my scraps for this layout. I used my Fiskars punch (the smaller ones) and a larger EK Success punch for the scallop squares. I used a slot punch and put ribbon through the holes, knotting each end for some texture. I printed descriptive words on a transparency which served as "patterned paper" and also my journaling. The silver stickers serve as secondary titles which are lyrics from the song that I liked the most. I used my American Crafts puffy stickers for the main title, "This is me". I celebrated my birthday last month doing my favourite things - visiting the bookstore, getting some scrap supplies, watching a movie and having dinner at my favourite restaurant. With well-wishers texting my phone all day, homemade breakfast by my sister and my morning chores already done :) , it was a simple yet divine day. A once-a-year simple pleasure in life.

This LO was assembled very quickly using scraps. I used all the negative portions of the shapes I cut for previous layouts and just rearranged them. (I made the shaped template on chipboard which I traced from a Jenni Bowlin paper.) The photos were put through Poladroid (again! Yes, I love the effect!). The left hand corner flourish is a rub-on. The rest of the border was doodled, along with part of my journaling.


The "flower" was stitched together from ribbon.

My LO is about the way I feel about my nephew.

I used Poladroid again for the photo...love the polaroid effect...The photo was sanded, outlined with a black marker and adhered to the background with masking and duct tape. I wanted the piece to look like a photo pasted on wallpaper (the patterned paper) so I distressed and dry-painted the edges. I used an ice-cream stick for the date. I used white paint for the journaling block (greatly inspired by Julie Balzer) and then wrote my feelings with a black pen. Pin It
