Friday's abstract floral watercolour practice

Happy Friday friends! Sharing this morning's abstract floral watercolour practice....:) Currently a little bit obsessed with the whole atmospheric effect with lots of water and blurring to achieve the "artsy" look but is actually used to cover up "mistakes". *LOL*

Enjoy your weekend!

Using cardboard packaging on my projects (Part 2)

If you are a regular blog reader, you know that I am big on repurposing and giving things a new lease of life. If possible. It is so easy to just put everything in the recycle bin and let the relevant agencies deal with the by-products of your purchases. Even though we cannot repurpose everything, we should try to at least reduce single use items. And it's a great way to get creative too. Back in May, I shared how I used cardboard packaging on my projects...here is Part 2. :)

I really love the bright bold colours on this makeup packaging so I used it as a photo mat on my layout. I even cut out the text from the side of the box (Make your escape) and used it on my layout.

The eco-bag set that came with a skincare purchase had a kraft tag...

Which was perfect as an element on my card. :)

My recent nail sticker purchases came in individual cardboard sleeves with a cut-out window...

So I used that as a fun base to design some happy mail bits.

What about you? How are you getting creative with your packaging materials?

Wednesday

Workspace Wednesday - morning practice and dining out

Happy Wednesday friends! Just sharing snippets of my life from today....:)

First up, this morning's 20-minute loose florals watercolour practice. Played with my neglected Sennelier watercolours and a new Princeton Velvetouch Petal Brush.

Restrictions for dining in at restaurants for fully-vaccinated people or those with a negative Covid19 test taken in the last 24 hours prior were eased as of yesterday. (We have a local app on our mobiles called TraceTogether which indicates our vaccination status.)

So we went out for some Italian at the One Michelin Star Garibaldi Italian Restaurant and Bar. :)

First up: Creamy cauliflower soup with cheese and croutons (Okay, this was the soup of the day and they didn't have the fancy description on the menu...so I just described what I tasted..hahaha)

Next: Deep-fried crab cake with smoked salmon cream sauce and dill.

Barramundi with Braised Lentils & Roasted Cauliflower.

Spaghetti “Aglio e Olio” with Prawns & Powdered Bottarga

We ended with dessert of the day and an espresso (+ chocolate chip cookies!). Again, no description for the plated dessert but I tasted hazelnut ice-cream, caramelised rice crisps, raspberry jelly, vanilla mousse, cocoa semifreddo and Dulce de Leche.

It was an awesome meal. :)

The one about the soursop whisperer

So the Yams love to eat soursop. But apparently it is a very "sensitive" fruit. Look at it sideways and it will turn bad on you. *I exaggerate of course...LOL*

Fortunately for the Yams, we have a soursop whisperer in our midst. *triumphant music plays in the background*

As long as mum handles the soursop, we are guaranteed a decent soursop so she has been dubbed the "soursop whisperer". *winks*

Didn't have a soursop embellishment but I used up a few other fruit ones in my stash. :)

Happy Tuesday friends!:)

Mixed Media Monday: Playing along with the prompts for #artfulaugust - first 3 projects

So I saw one of my IG friends playing along with the #artfulaugust prompts and decided that I wasn't that far behind to actually play along. Have to play a bit of catch-up though. Here are the 3 projects I completed so far....

Day 7: Tree.

Day 8: Bold.

Day 9: Water.

Yep...I decided to try painting stuff that I had not tried painting before...as an additional challenge to myself. People have a bucket list of places to visit, mine is a list of stuff to learn to draw and paint. *winks*

Happy week ahead friends! :)

Someone got some happy mail! :)

Yep...Someone got some happy mail from a dear sweet friend in Australia.:) Thanks Lizzy Hill!  Always fascinated by the folds and pockets and envelopes in the package she sends. And she's my wax seal supplier. *LOL*

Enjoy your weekend friends! It's a holiday weekend so I'll be painting more flowers! :)

Recent watercolour floral painting practice pieces

Hello friends! Just wanted to share recent watercolour floral painting practice pieces with you today.

I mean it was a total obsession for me in the month of July. I was doing at least ONE a day and three or four on the weekends. You know how I get when I'm obsessed right? Yep, full immersion. *LOL*

Some were borderline decent till almost the end when I tried to do too much. And totally ruin them. Let's not see those. Let's just have a look at those work-in-progress shots that might look like potential masterpieces shall we? *winks*

Some are actually incomplete because I messed up somewhere and might just go in with other mixed media supplies to "save" them later.

Some looked like a kid's crayon drawing...because I went a little colour-crazy.

For some, the composition was a little "off" and I didn't know how to actually "finish".

But ultimately it was about having fun and I did! *triumphant music plays in the background*

I really enjoy doing abstract floral paintings because they can be done fast and there's a messy artistic quality to them.

Hope you are enjoying your Thursday! :)

Working on some happy mail bits...with a packaging base

Happy Wednesday friends! Just popping in to share a mini project today. I'm currently working on some happy mail bits for a dear friend. I'm going with a pink and green colour scheme so I've been pulling out stash and finding cute bits. The base is packaging from my nail stickers. :)

This week's mish mash card with random stuff from the scrap pile

Yes, sometimes I laugh at the random stuff I pick out from the scrap pile as I figure out how best to incorporate as many elements as possible (to dwindle the stash) while achieving a somewhat cohesive design on the card (read: totally usable in real life...you know, to give to someone*winks*).

The current card size (6x3 inches) I've been working on this year does limit the "space" to incorporate more elements but really helps me to use up the really small fussy-cut elements. And if the fussy-cut piece is too big, I just cut it off to fit (yep...the bird had a tail to it *LOL*).

I think the "scene" is quite fun, right? Hehehe...

Monday's Workspace - WIP on a realistic rose

I've been struggling with painting my abstract roses. They just look like blobs....even though I've been practising. (pictured: last week's efforts)

Over the weekend, I decided to try a more "controlled" approach....still looks blobby to me. *LOL*

So late last night, I concluded that the only way I was going to get better at abstract roses was to learn how to paint a proper realistic rose. Here we are 4 hours in and nowhere near complete. But not so "blobby" eh? *winks*

Happy week ahead friends!:)

Friday's abstract florals

Happy Friday friends! Here is Friday's abstract florals for this week. Still struggling to stay "loose" and just let the paint and water flow and dry for the "abstract" look. *winks* The part I like is how quick the process is .... just 15 minutes.  :)

Enjoy your weekend!
