It's no secret that I love Silks Acrylic Glaze. It was not love at first use though. Like most of the colorants I've bought, it took a while and a lot of experimenting before I "fell in love" with them! *winks*
Silks Acrylic Glaze is a semi-gloss acrylic glaze. What makes it special is the mica flakes and mineral particles in the glaze. They somehow work together to refract light like a crystal, resulting in a beautiful shimmer and sparkle.
You don't need to use a lot to get spectacular results. Here, I prepped my wood monogram with mesh tape, wrapping tissue + a layer of gesso then just layered on the Silks. You can blend colours when they are still wet or wait for each layer to dry to create depth and richness of colours.
Mixed media wood panel |
They dry fairly quickly and you can add water to dilute them.
Party mixed media tag |
The sheen you get from Silks Acrylic Glazes is particularly alluring on patterned surfaces like lace.
Beautiful mixed media tag for Imaginarium Designs |
Or mediums like glass bead gel.
Mixed media canvas with found objects |
They are great for highlighting raised surfaces.
P/s: If you are lucky to have access to Silks Acrylic Glazes, give them a try! I can't get them locally so I only use them sparingly on the top layer of my mixed media projects.

So pretty! And I bet they look even better in person.
You have created some beautiful projects with them & for a long time I really wanted them but I have read some very distressing things online from the company that produce them. They seem to be having a war between the owners & the original one was saying that the colours fade very much over the years, which sadly has put me off them now.
your projects look awesome, love the shimmer of these glazes !!
Oh my these are all so pretty! I guess I will have to learn a lot of mixed media from you :)
You are a mixed-media master, my friend! These are just gorgeous!
