Mixed media canvas with found objects....a tutorial

Mixed-media-canvas-with-found-objects1

It's deeply satisfying for me when I incorporate found objects on my mixed media canvas. On this canvas, I used vegetable netting and some old lighting parts.

I started with a 6 x 6 canvas and my found objects..and Liquitex matte medium.

I adhered the vegetable netting first....it was not big enough to cover the whole canvas so I arranged the lighting parts to create "unity" between the elements. Adhere all the elements with matte medium and let them dry naturally.

After a layer of gesso over the netting and lighting parts, I used The Crafter's Workshop stencil and Liquitex light modeling paste to fill up the "white" space [Not sure if you've noticed, I like to have every inch of my canvas covered...*LOL*].

Once everything was dry, I applied a layer of silver metallic paint from Art Anthology. It's more of a glaze paint so it added a subtle colour all over with a touch of shimmer. Then I dripped the Daler-Rowney pearlescent paints and spritzed water until I got a background I liked.

Then it was time to embellish...some blooms [mix up the materials to create more interest], leaves, a chain and a charm.

To add more "depth" to the piece, I added Silks acrylic glazes to blend everything together. It's handy to have a wet rag so that you can wipe off and dab the paints if necessary. Or just use your fingers to blend. The beauty of glazes is that they layer beautifully and you can still see the colours underneath. :)

Then I went in with a little more green paint on the top half of the canvas...and also painted the sides of the canvas blue.

I didn't like the "made with love" charm when I first glued it down because it was too "shiny" and didn't really go with the rest of the elements....but the glazes really helped to blend everything together.

Here you can clearly see how the different colours create depth and texture...[bet you are going to hoard vegetable netting now right? *winks*].

Hope you can give your found objects some love and incorporate them in your art pieces.

P/s: Happy weekend friends!

This is incredible. I love seeing the process. It sounds like too much drying time for me - you must be far more patient (or have more desk space) than me!
