Are you a messy painter?

Australia-travel-journal

So the other day I was chatting with M, a friend who teaches at my LSS and she explained to me that she was not into the whole mixed media trend because it was too messy for her. I guess that's what people associate mixed media with when people share their dirty painted/inked hands on social media. *LOL*

I am a surprisingly neat painter. I don't even need to wear an apron and my hands and nails stay pretty clean. Even when using my fingers to paint this art journal cover. :)

My secret? A wet rag on hand. I just clean as I go along so my hands don't get stained and my things don't get dirty. :)

Still love the amazing textures one gets from wrapping tissue and paint.

And my current obsession with chipboard in my art journals. Love that they add so much visual interest without the bulk.

Loving that mist on Australia ...so sparkly!! Gorgeous work...I'm CONSTANTLY having to find embellies to cover the smudges I make on my work cos I get sooooo filthy it's ridiculous...even with an apron....oh, to be you!!!!!!!!

This is AMAZING! WOW WOW WOW!!! I get my hands stained with mists ... but then you have seen how I make my canvasses! LOL! So it's no surprise they get messed up when I am 'squishing' the paint and mists together! :)

I have to admit I am a messy painter. I try not to make a mess but I just get busy and before you know it there is paint everywhere. Love your amazing creation here. Such wonderful texture..

Oh this is so pretty Yvonne, i haven't tried mixed media yet but I am pretty sure I will be a messy painter if I did, cause I get inky fingers with distress inks itself!

This is awesome! I love all your mixed media projects. Though i cant make out how the windows look in the real journal's pages! Do you glue them all together as well?
And I think I am at a mid level on the scale of messiness. I dont need to wear an apron, but i do get my nails smudged with paint! :D

Awesome! Love how you get such a great mix of colour then tone down with white. My apologies for not getting my Lessology post up on my blog yet - always have to post MCS as soon as it's ready and now the internet was down all weekend. I'm a very neat painter - my studio is spotless - I keep a packet of wetwipes on hand and slit open plastic bags for on top of my mats - then fold them up for future use or discard if very messy...

Oh yes I get messy!!! Cleaning under my nails for days! I will have to try the wet rag....... I love your journal page, so vibrant and beautiful, I would love to know what kind of tissue you used because I tried it with the tissue used for wrapping and lets just say I am not showing it to anyone, lol hugs

mmmm! Tissue paper has such a nice texture! Your book is amazing! You friend might become addicted to mixed media, I know I am! And then a tissue paper hoarder....and then finding cool recycled items...She should give it a whirl!
