I talk a lot about not wasting residual mists left on masks when working on projects but using the leftover mists to create new backgrounds for other projects. Today I'm sharing how you can use 5 masks to create 10 different backgrounds. :)
When you have a mask that has more detailed cut-outs, what you get when you press a clean cardstock on the mask with residual mist is a negative image of the original mask.
The impression you get will vary with the intensity of the mist colours you choose and how much mist is actually applied.
Mixing vibrant colours can get you very cool results especially if you let the colours mix a little on the mask first.
Sometimes the results can be unexpectedly different. Because I sprayed a lot of mist on the script mask, I got some really interesting effects after.
Remember that you can always cover up parts you don't like with patterned paper so have fun with your masks and mists!
There you have it, 5 different masks = 10 different backgrounds. What do you think? Ready to give this a spin?

nice! I don't have any masks, though... maybe I should get some in the future :D
Awesome! I have some mask and they are right by my desk but never use them. Might have to make those a priority more this year.
I very interesting mix of backgrounds... it's funny how you can get such a different look using the same stencil on the opposite side. Thanks for the lesson, Yvonne! Great work on them all, but I love the stars best!
you are a genius, girl! looking at your layouts make me want to scrapbook again. love love your use of masks. gotta go and get me some! thanks so much for sharing, Yvonne!
wow what a post.I have one bottle of mist thanks to you but no mask...so mission next is to procure more mists and some masks.fabulous effects with bot masks and the residues left on masks.
Yvonne, you rock! Love your tutorial! I think the next one needs to be on what you use for some of your masks...don't you use some homemade ones that don't require much investment? I have a couple of plastic doilies I hoard for my misting. LOVE THEM!
Wonderful selection of your layouts.. You are a genius in putting them together - great details and fun elements to each LO....
TFS - enjoy your wonderful day!

I love seeing it all laid out like this! Question: do you press the wet mask to paper, or press the paper to the wet mask?
What I totally love about this is the unique and surprise results you get that make your layouts so artsy and one of a kind! You make me wish I had some stencils! :)
Guess what...I like the LOs with residual mist more :)))
Great job, Yvonne!
I actually do this already - like you I hate to waste! But I am not as organised as you to get all my layouts side by side and compare in a post like this - great!!
