Adventures in mixed media - my first painted dessert

I've been really getting back into mixed media the past two weeks...playing with watercolours, coloured pencils and white acrylic marker. Decided that I would attempt a variety of different things..girls, dog, bird and now my first painted dessert! :)

I really enjoy this coffee and cheese flan with fresh fruits that get to savour when I dine at Vietnam House in Ho Chi Minh City.:)

Happy weekend friends!

Another week, another mixed media girl

Well, here is this week's mixed media girl. Yep...she looks a tad sad. I don't know why but my girls always look like that. *LOL*

When cousins hang out

So I finally printed out these photos from May 2022's gathering and got them documented on a scrapbook page.*triumphant music plays in the background*

I love how mum and her sister + cousins are just giggling away at an inside job oblivious to my camera clicking away. *winks*

Now that I am printing larger photos, it is a tad more challenging to fit them on a single 12x12 page. Since I really want to focus on my mum and aunties' faces, I just overlapped the photos so that I have more space to embellish. :)

Quite a fun page eh? *LOL*

Thursday's desk - this week's mixed media bird

Had fun with this mixed media bird. :) I started by sketching the bird with coloured pencils, went in with watercolours and then finished the details with coloured pencils. I quite like the looseness with the watercolours and the depth created with the coloured pencils. What do you think?

Another day out - for a MAC event

Brought the folks out to town last Friday for an early dinner, shopping and a Sephora x MAC event.

Mum had a makeover and she was really pleased with the results - her skin looked really good.

Even dad could tell...he usually doesn't know what's going on. *LOL*

I love that they had an Instax camera at the event....free photos for the layout! :)

Monday's page from the gratitude journal - pretty nail extensions

This marked the first time I had nail extensions with a design I found online and wanted to replicate. It was also the worst extensions I have gotten so far. The extensions were done like 3 days prior to my flight back to Singapore....and I lost the first extension the day I landed. And another the next day. And yet another the following day. The nail technician did a lousy job prepping my nail bed and adhering the extensions. They should last 3 - 4 weeks.

But I did love the design...and enjoyed the compliments I got while they were on. :)

The one on The Modern Kintsugi workshop

So the other day, I signed up for this mother and daughter event organised by Sephora and Cle de Peau in celebration of Mother's Day. I usually will "park" dad at a shopping mall for the duration of the workshop but this time, it was held at an industrial building and not a mall. But the organizers were kind enough to let him join in the workshop as well. :)

Basically, we get broken pieces of pottery which we get to put back together with gold (epoxy mixed with fine metallic powder). The art symbolises putting back the broken pieces in our lives - instead of hiding the cracks, we show off their beauty by covering them with gold.

The whole experience was quite therapeutic...and we got some lovely door gifts too - a box of macarons, an eye cream sample and a travel-sized lip palette...not too bad for a "free" event.

Happy weekend friends! :)

Thursday's mixed media bird in a new sketchbook

So I started on a new sketchbook...and here is my first page - a mixed media bird done with watercolours and coloured pencils.

Not quite sure about this mixed media paper because it doesn't take a lot of water and peels...and I had to "save" the bird with coloured pencils. But I'm going to continue to work in it with different mediums and see how it turns out. :)

2024's birthday layout

This year's birthday was just a simple one...as my uncle passed away the day before and it seemed inappropriate to even celebrate.

The bestie sent me a cake so we took some photos at home before going out for a quick lunch. My sister also treated me to my first (and currently, only) movie of the year Kungfu Panda.

Anyway, this was one of the fastest layouts ever. The birthday collage piece was taken directly from happy birthday mail packaging and added to the layout as the main decorative element. *LOL*

In case you were wondering, it was a salted caramel cheesecake.:)

Happy week ahead friends!

Friday's desk- last 4 eye drawings in my sketchbook

And yes, we've come to the end of another eye drawing sketchbook *high fives all around*. Here are the last 4 eye drawings...

I think it's time to move to another facial feature...I'm thinking lips/teeth/tongue....that would be challenging.

Enjoy your weekend friends!
