This week's quick card and a little Singapore update

Hello there friends! Just sharing this week's super quick card...and to give you a little update on the situation in Singapore.

We are currently into week 3 of phase 2 of reopening. Even though we can lawfully go shopping at malls, it is quite a hassle as they've restricted the number of entrances and exits and you have to "check in" and "check out" at every single store via a phone app. Plus you can only have a few people in each store at any point in time so you might have to queue outside the store for a bit. But it has been nice to at least go out for a cup of coffee and catch up with the bestie.

Of course, the buzz for the last 8 days has been the political debates among the opposition parties and the current ruling party as we head to the polls tomorrow. Yep, an election in the midst of a pandemic. Singapore was the "gold standard" in the handling a pandemic back in January and February but an explosion of cases in foreign worker dormitories in late March promptly turned that gold into a cautionary tale of complacency and led to a 8 week nationwide lockdown.

Like with most countries, reopening has led to an increase in the number of community cases. Even though the numbers remain low, there are definitely concerns about the possibility of further community spread as 2.65 million Singaporeans head out to vote tomorrow. Voting is compulsory and there are no options to vote online or via post. I really hope the mask-wearing and social distancing measures are enough to prevent further community spread, the possibility of another lockdown really does not appeal to me at all.

What about you? How is your country/state dealing with the COVID 19 situation?

  1. Our elections aren't until November, but they allow postal voting ... so hopefully people take advantage of that here. Arizona is still 'open' and our numbers are insane for the virus ... worse in the country .. so, there you have it, we are the guinea pigs of what NOT to do! ;) LOVING that card... love the balloons and the house!!!!!!

  2. First, I LOVE your card. It reminds me of the Pixar movie, 'Up.'

I had no idea voting was compulsory in Singapore. I hope it all goes well and that everyone stays safe. We've been voting by mail in California for a long time and I LOVE it. I don't know how safe it will be to vote in person in November, so I'm hoping all Californians will opt to vote by mail.

While our mall is technically open, our restaurants that had opened have closed up again. California has been one of the more cautious states, but obviously not cautious enough. We are staying home, only heading out for groceries and vital supplies, and walks around the neighborhood.
