The reworked canvas

Reworked-mixed-media-canvas

Meet my extremely layered and reworked canvas.

Layers of gesso, matte medium. lace bits, modeling paste and colorants to cover up what it was in its previous life...

Incredible-adventure-mixed-media-canvas

Which was this canvas done back in November 2014.

My mum brought it to school to "dress up" her desk and I recently got it back. Having been drawing and painting my own girl faces for the last 4 months, I was immediately "dissatisfied" with this piece and tried to "improve" on it.*winks*

I failed miserably of course and had to proceed to Plan B: distract with sparkly stuff! *LOL*

I think it looks better now? What do you think?

Playing along with Anything But Cute.

*Edited* This was a DT Fave over at Anything But Cute. :)

  4. I think it looks amazing! Love those colours together and the texture is gorgeous! It always amuses me how completely we can cover up what we've got with doing Other Stuff! You would never know there's a girl lurking beneath there somewhere!!!

  5. Wow, Yvonne! I love how you covered your old work of art. I do the same as you - I try to "fix" something and end up changing it completely. You did such an amazing job here, but I must say, I really liked the "old" face, too! HUGS!!!

  6. This is wonderful - but I still liked your old canvas too! It's amazing how you were able to obliterate any trace of the old artwork. One day, when we're all dead and gone, you'll be really famous and someone will uncover this masterpiece underneath - lol!

  9. I think it is super cool, for sure! The texture on here is amazing! I love the close up shots where we can really see all the different finishes. I'm loving the crackle glaze in the framed piece, and the glass beads around the edge, too. And the background is awesome with all those layers and that gorgeous color. And of course the sparkly bits are such a stunning finishing touch!

My personal favorite is that frame with the beads and the crackled insert--I would love to know what you used to achieve that amazing cracked surface! 14. Isn't it funny how we evolve with our art? Both of these designs are beautiful and your end result is so full of yummy textures! I never would have guessed there was a totally different design under it all. Your ornate frame with the cracked glass is outstanding and those flowers drawn the eye in. Wowzers!
