Vintage lace over a mixed media background

Create-mixed-media-canvas

Sometimes one can get stuck in a rut when working with the same surface. Not sure if you've noticed, but I tend to start my canvases with scrunched up wrapping tissue...like 90% of the time. *LOL*

I love the look of canvas but it's a little too "flat" for my liking. The scrunched up wrapping tissue adds that bit of texture and you can still see the canvas texture underneath.

Here I coloured the scrunched up wrapping tissue + gessoed base with metallic Faber Castell gelatos, then layered come vintage lace over. I love the dreamy result of the background which shimmers when you look at the canvas at an angle. :)

After that, I just went a little crazy with the embellishments from my "save-it-for-a-rainy-day" stash. :)

  1. Beautiful! What does the back look like? How do you attach your lace?

    1. There's nothing at the back, just carried the designs down the sides. I used gel medium.

On another note, I can see that Dr.Sonia is facing the same problem as me about the google friend connect. It's been so irritating not being able to follow any blogs through the friend connect :-/
Are you too facing the same problem, Yvonne ?

  20. Beautiful canvas!

Thanks for letting me know. I didn't know word verification was on. I don't like it either. When I checked it out it didn't ask me so when I went to settings I saw that I did have it on. EEK.. What a pain it is:)
