Social media can be so overwhelming....

Thanks-a-bunch-pillow-box

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts about Pinterest versus blogging. It's heartening to know that people still want to read my blog...*LOL*

Seriously though, social media has really changed the way people communicate what they like. It's so much easier to click the "Like" button on Facebook when you are on the go rather than leave a meaningful comment on a blog. I'm guilty of that too when I'm pressed for time.

The truth is, social media can be so overwhelming. It is no longer a case of "You build it and they will come."  If you want people to see your work, you've to actively promote it via all the different channels. It's called casting a wide net....and seeing what fishes get caught...*winks* I pre-schedule my posts on my blog and my Facebook Fan Page every week. Everything else is automated from my blog. And that already takes up a whole LOT of time.... without taking into consideration the time that goes into creating the projects.

I marvel at people who write long blog posts or post multiple times a day and are always "on" some social media channel. Honestly, I can't keep up. Unless I give up my other life. And sleep. And become a zombie. *LOL*  What about you? Do you find social media overwhelming?

P/s: Just an upcycled pillow box.

  2. very true... it's so much easier to just click 'Like' on FB. and sometimes I wonder why I still bother writing blogs.. haha... but oh well, it's just another channel of sharing what we make :D

Love your upcycled pillow box! :)

  3. what a super cute upcycle girl :)

there is no way to "keep up" and still have a life off the computer!!
plus the more time spent on line is the less time i have to craft ;)

  4. I do have to agree that it is hard keeping up with blogging. Love looking at what everyone creates, but commenting becomes overwhelming. I do my best. Cute pillow box - love the bright colors!

  5. I like my blogs first -- everything else comes after :) Why I love the blogs ... I can not only see your creations, but I see into your life and I feel a connection :) I have made more 'real' friends with blogging than pinterest, FB and any other social media :) Heck... out of the 150 cards I make for Christmas -- I would say 25 go to my co-workers (cause I have no other choice but to give to them! lol!!!!) -- 40 go to family -- 20 go to my closet friends -- and that means 65 go to my bloggy friends -- so the MOST go to them!! :) Crazy huh??? I just have been fortunate to meet some amazing and loving friends in bloggy land!!! I only go to FB when I am on a break staring at the computer and decide to stare at my phone instead!! LOL!!! :)

  6. Such a cute box, love the fresh colors.
Yes true..social media has taken a toll on blogging, sometimes i feel much easier to post a picture in FB rather than writing a blog post, lol.
But still with blogging you can actually get to know people, not only their works.

  7. This is super cute! I love the colors you used and I think I have some of that green and white paper which I love and I am saving it for something special-I'm sure! :) Social media is information overload. I like my blogs first. And you can preschedule on your facebook fan page? I need to learn how to do that! :)

  9. Hi Yvonne,

Yes social media has become all pervasive and such an integral part of our daily lives but it's too pushy at times... there are a zillion craft groups and some people post the same card in all the groups so the notifications annoys the hell out of me.. Moreover I end up missing essential posts because my wall has been repeatedly spammed.. On the other hand I get to stay in touch with friends who are far away and connect with new ones having similar interests.. SO I guess like anything else.. An excess of anything is bad.. Limit yourself and you would be happy... :D

  10. I use social media a lot for my work and I always marvel at the local businesses who don't use it in some form or another, but when it comes to craftying, I'm sticking to bloggging :)

  11. This is so cute! Still love that paper!

  12. This card screams HAPPINESS! Love it, Yvonne! And yes, social media overwhelms me. I chose mostly blogging over FB and Twitter. It's nice to get attention once in a while, but I am most comfortable in hanging out in my own/others blog as I enjoy it the most.

  14. I think your pillow box is fun and delightful!
I am not big on social media as well, let alone writing long post.

  15. Lovely pillow box!

And I definitely agree that it was "BE YOUR WORTH & THE WORLD RECOGNIZES" Once Upon A Time .... Now you got to brag & haul everywhere possible which is still a NO to me... Initially blogging was for people to know that I am here too, but now it is just for me.... Come on I have a life & at the end of the day ME is all that matters to self....
Social Media is again the same "MEDIA" which remembers you ONLY WHEN YOU SHOW UP & suffers severe amnesia..... :D

    hugs...xoxo

  18. cute and happy project...sassy goodness:)

It took me awhile to hop over to FB...I still don't tweet or instagram...I'm not sure how people manage their time doing all that. I have a hard enough time with blogging and FB!

  19. Oh yes! Tell me about it! Something new is coming in everyday and it's so hard to keep up sometimes..

  21. What a fun card!! Your comments are so true!! I definitely get more feedback on my blog when I have the time to get around and visit by blog friends, but family first, and I don't always have a lot time to devote to it. ~ Blessings, Tracey

  22. I like blogging, it is hard to keep up some times. I try to get on line a few times a day to see what everyone else is doing if I can. Love this, so adorable!

  23. I agree with you.. I can not keep up with all the social medias.. But I am keeping to my blogging. I think it is so nice to pop by and read about whats going on and how people made things..

  24. You nailed the perfect point Yvonne. That LIKE button has become part of everyday life. It took me some time to start with FB. I still prefer the old blogging way:)

  25. I"m on FB, but that's it. And even that is too much sometimes! I intentionally limit my friends to actual friends and I still can't always keep up with the feed. I can only imagine how crazy it would be to add Instagram, Twitter, or any of the others. Way too much to manage! I can't figure out how some people are everywhere at all times - don't they do anything else?!

  26. I know what you mean... I don't have time for much than real life, just my blog, can't remember last time I was on facebook, so no time for Pinterest or twetter for me lol
Just have to add before I press pulish button, it is a cut little card you have made, I love those adorable fruits lol
    Have a great weekend :)

  28. My goodness, what a fun, bright, and happy upcycled pillow box, Yvonne! Love that paper and love those little pears! Too cute!
And yes, I find social media a bit overwhelming, too. I'm on FB and pinterest, but have avoided all other avenues. That is enough for me! :)

  29. I know what you mean about social media. I'm constantly promoting my blog in one way or another. On a side note, I love your blog and I'm one of your new followers. I look forward to reading more of your articles.

  30. Awwww. This is so darn cute. I have to say I feel the same way about social media. I had just decided recently to step back from facebook. And spend more time focusing on blogger. But then there is Pinterest and I also love instagram and flickr. Its all so overwhelming.

    Hugs~

  31. I don't remember that post? I must look it up!! Oh I don't overthink it. I don't want the whole world to follow my blog, just my followers & they seem to be growing so I don't think blogging is dying out! Maybe those blogs that ramble on about themselves & no-one is really interested in seeing 6 million pictures of their kids, but our type is here to stay! I love that you keep your posts short. It's never a chore to keep up with you. I 've shortened mine a lot over the years & am striving for shorter still! FB is what it is. I don't expect anything more out of it. That's one place NOT to take seriously. Same with Pinterest. Fun but a total waste of time (okay maybe not TOTAL) but pretty much!

  32. Great post! Yes I am a social media junkie, especially Facebook. I do find it overwhelming sometimes trying to keep up with blogs and Facebook. It sometimes makes me too tired to create LOL. The good thing about it though is all the wonderful, creative people I have met through this hobby and that makes me happy.
