This is the layout that made me realize that I'm not really into distress stains. Seriously. After 10 bottles. *LOL* Tim Holtz made it look so cool with his demos...I've tried it so many times but just don't like distress stains' diluted consistency. Then Tim had to go introduce the white Picket Fence colour...apparently the key to blending it all. That was my 10th bottle. Still don't like it. Have any of you tried distress stains?
Kind of makes of my leaves look like a three-year old's doodles right? I used a template for the leaves, then decided to colour in with distress stains...didn't quite work so I used some watercolour crayons to try to "salvage" the leaves...*LOL* Oh well, it does seem to go well with the fake blooms eh?
I used the sketch at Creative Scrappers. [Photos: My cousin and her husband]
Supplies: Crafter's Workshop Balzer Designs template, Maya mists, 7 Gypsies velvet blooms, Prima paper blooms, Heidi Swapp chipboard, SRM stickers, Ranger distress stain, ink and stickles, Sharpies, brads, watercolour crayon, ribbon.
P/s: Don't forget to play along with my guest Virginia's shopping challenge....the prize is a $15 gift certificate to The Crop Shop....it ends on Friday!
So pretty, love how you have framed it all with the flowers.
ReplyDeleteI love how this looks. I have all the distress stains and although I don't use them that I often I do like them.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the Distress Stains, but I do love what you've done with them here. This is so artsy cool! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence with those!! lol!! I loveeeeeeeeeeeeee your lo! LOVING the =numbered photos and love love love the flowers and leaves!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is great! Love the pictures and colors!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful layout, though I agree that the leaves aren't the best part. I'm not into distress stains either.
ReplyDeletewow this looks amazing...I love those pained leaves..They really do add a great look to the page...Love the flowers and the painted frame around the photos...brilliant..
ReplyDeleteRegardless of your not really being into distress stains, I think this layout is really cute and quite fun, Yvonne! Your "salvage job" on the leaves makes them look rather charming, imho!! :)
ReplyDeleteYour LO turned out pretty dang good for someone that doesn't like distressing... I haven't tried this out yet so I wouldn't know. But looking at your end results it's pretty.... love those blooms too!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I don't like his distress embossing powder- looks like sand painting.. done by a 4 year old. Your design is top rate- the color is amazing and the photos and layered flowers are all fantastic but I think you're right- the distress inks are distracting for your central design. Maybe some doodling on top or some layering of transparencies or other material cut into leaf shape to add over the green color so you can still see it but not focus on the fussy detail? I feel the exact same way about the inks by the way!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried the stains, but that doesn't sound like much fun! I really hate the distress powder - it sets off the smoke alarm! I use it like glitter only now, no heating.
ReplyDeleteI like how it turned out, though - but don't buy any more ;) Ten bottles is enough now! lol
I know what you mean that you are not into the Distress Stains. I love the page though. The inking may not turn out as well as you had planned..but that's art, right? I will remind my readers to play the shopping challenge! xo
ReplyDeleteWell I just ordered some (including picket fence) so I'm curious to see how I feel about them :) Yours looks 'water coloresque' and very pretty! I'm sure TH somehow makes them look grungy...I'm kinda excited to have a go!
ReplyDeletePretty cheerful LO Yvonne. Not to distress with the distress stains LOL. I have yet to try that White Picket Fence & the other distress markers.
ReplyDeleteI just bought my first distress stain and I love it, mind you I've only used it on the Prima mistables canvas and a bookmark! I really love how your layout turned out, the flowers are gorgeous and I adore the square of photos in the middle! Hugs, Roxy.
ReplyDeleteI really like this page--love the combo misting--I'm not sure about distress inks or stains...I can't seem to figure them out!
ReplyDeleteSo so cool!!!
ReplyDeletegorgeous layout!! Love the background job!!! and photos are lovely too... Hugs..xoxo
ReplyDeletehave not tried those so no help here, sorry
ReplyDeleteyour layout turned out beautiful and i love the step by step photos!!
working on class #1 now :)
Awesome!!!!
ReplyDeleteHa - you know I have never bought any misting stuff at all :>)
ReplyDeleteI think your leaves look like watercolors - pretty.
WAHAHAHA.. i loved the distress ink pads, but when the stains came out, i knew instantly i won't like it... BUTTTT.. i still end up buying the picket fence. LOL.
ReplyDeleteyour page is lovely, yvonne:) i can't imagine the mess i'd make with stains! happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteWell it still looks pretty on the white with the yellow misting! I've never owned a Distess Ink - as I buy online I can never catch a sale and Tim's stuff is always so over the top expensive!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE how your layout came out - it's perfect but yes, I'm the same way - I've tried the sprints and I'm getting there with them but still can't decide if I like to put paint on my paper.
ReplyDeleteI have not played with distress stains before and looks like I won't in the near future... LOL
ReplyDeleteLove the layout, though :) You rock-ed it nonetheless :)
I have trouble with it too...but yours looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI really have not done to much with Tims distressed stains.. Just some distressing around the edges of cards.. I think your page turned out great! Hope you're having a wonderful week..
ReplyDeleteHugs~
Oh how neat! Love the numbers and the grouping of the pics. Looks great. All your focus goes to the pics!
ReplyDeleteThe titles of your posts crack me up! Great layout
ReplyDeleteI too have not had much luck with the stains. I think your layout turned out lovely though.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm....ive never tried distress stains..but I. Can relate aft 10 bottles! Lol! Love what you did with this lo..reli gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeletei usually use the stains for backgrounds and i love them. i just don't use them often enough.... how about putting yours into spray bottles and use them as mists? that should work better for you? =) i think your leaves go pretty nicely with the blooms. beautiful layout, Yvonne!
