Upcycled raisin box ...another chance to win some Stash Cash from Your Scrapbook Stash! :)

My stuff upcycled container

Another chance to win some stash cash from Your Scrapbook Stash! :) [Have you entered the previous giveway?]

I don't know about you but I'm always in need of containers to put my stuff in...*LOL*

And it makes me really happy when I can upcycle something...:)

I glued some scrunched up wrapping tissue around the container, then wrapped some burlap and trims around it. The container's plastic so I could use brads to adhere the burlap and trims. Not too shabby for a 30 minute project eh? *winks*

Supplies: Sunmaid raisin container, wrapping tissue, burlap, twine, brads, (from Your Scrapbook Stash) :Crate Paper chipboard, stickers and paper, Webster's Pages trim.

Don't forget to visit the rest of the Stash girls for more chances to win!

What do you have to do to win $10 in stash cash right here? Leave me a comment on this post and check back on Friday when I announce the winners! :)

How to create a textured background using wrapping tissue and glimmer glam. A tutorial!:)

One month old

Today, I'm sharing how to create your own textured background using wrapping tissue and Glimmer Glam in a short tutorial! :) My model for today is my friend Maggi's daughter Zippy! :)

Step 1: Compose your layout and elements. I "guesstimated" the rough area I needed to work on...no sense working on areas that would be covered up by papers or embellies.

Step 2:  Apply liquid adhesive to the cardstock.

Step 3 : Add some wrapping tissue, scrunching the tissue as you adhere to the cardstock.

Step 4: You should get something like this. The glue dries clear. You can speed up the process with a heat gun.

Step 5:  Paint a layer of gesso.

Step 6: Apply distress inks in blues and greens (to match the patterned paper).

Step 7: Paint on the Glimmer Glam (Midnight). Love the big sparkly glitter bits.

Supplies: (from Your Scrapbook Stash) Webster's Pages papers and trims, Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam in Midnight, Others: American Crafts stickers, SRM sticker, metal butterfly embellishments.

What do you think?

P/s: Come play along with my guest Lynnda's minimal challenge! :) And have you entered a comment in yesterday's giveaway post? Come back tomorrow for another chance at a giveaway! Winners will be announced on Friday's post! :)

Go modern shabby with Helen Tilbury! :)

My guest today is the lovely Helen Tilbury of Scrap Addict. Helen has a sweet romantic and eclectic style. Her layouts are always full of pretty details and luscious layers. She also plays with mediums to create one-of- a-kind backgrounds that are rich in interest and texture, creating the perfect backdrops for her stunning photos! :) Today she's hosting an awesome challenge with a cool RAK for the winner! :)

But first, let's ooh and ahhh over her gorgeous gallery!

****************************************************************************

Hi there Peeps!  My name is Helen Tilbury & I live in the sunny town of Durban, South Africa, with my dear husband Shane (he puts up with a lot…) and my 3 kids…Jack (16), Reilly (13 & a BOY in case you were wondering…) and my little girl Camryn, whose 11.  I have another darling daughter, Chelsea, who is now 18, and lives away from home for the most part as she is studying at university (sob sob!).  We also share our home with 3 fur-babies called Cocoa, Daisy & Chives & our ‘can’t-live-without’ full-time house-helper Mercy.

Life can get pretty hot around here with temperatures reaching 40 degrees celsius in mid-summer so the safest place for me to be is in my scrap room!  I can easily spend hours & hours in my studio as it also houses my computer, where I love to blog & photo-edit too.  Currently I am serving on six different design teams & I just can’t get enough of this wonderful hobby!  You can read more about me & where I “do my thing” in the sidebar of my blog at http://helentilbury.blogspot.com if you like J

Thank you so much to dear Yvonne for having me.  I love Yvonne’s blog & her “Less is More” approach & am honoured to be able to share my layouts & challenge with all of you, her readers, here today.

I am also forever repurposing things like medical gauze for my layouts as I have to buy all my scrapbooking products online & wait a month for them to arrive, so when I’m in need of “a quick fix” I look around the home & see what I can find to cut up LOL.

I hope you enjoy my challenge & I look forward to seeing all your lovely creations here soon.
*********************************************************************

Are you ready to play along with Helen's challenge? Read on...

The challenge is to MIX YOUR MISTS (Modern Shabby Style!)

1)     Use at least 3 different colours of mists(diluted acrylic paint in a spray bottle works too)
2)     Use chipboard that you have first used as a mask for your mists (like I have done with the Imaginarium Designs butterfly)
3)     Use up some of your old (or new!) rub-ons (stickers work too)
4)     Add an eclectic assortment of other elements to give your creation a MODERN SHABBY STYLE – here I used Hambly Screenprints Doily stickers, American Crafts chipboard elements & tags, plus some flowers, twine, a pretty pearly brad &  glossy American Crafts badge.

Pretty cool challenge, eh? Are you up for it? Helen's offering this awesome RAK to the winner...

Please link your newly created modern shabby style project (card, layout or altered item) via Inlinkz (located at the end of the post) by Friday 12 August.

As always, please leave a little love for my guest Helen.
