A mixed media canvas for Sisters Art Creation

4-happy-kids-mixed-media-canvas

So I was invited to be a guest designer for Sisters Art Creation and created this 12x12 mixed media canvas using their lovely chipboard.

I love the popup look with a shadow effect so I always print another photo, cut out the silhouette and then prop them up on 3D foam. The flourish chipboard pieces were painted with acrylic paints and glazes so that they look like vines...*winks*

Because I matted the main photo in black, I had to add some black elements for a cohesive look. I did this by stamping some plants and then adding black sequins.

I actually distressed and machine-stitched the edge of the patterned paper for subtle texture.

One minute photos...

One-minute

I love it when I get my family to pose for photos and take continuous shots for one minute.

The results are often hilarious. Like these shots of nephews #1 and #2 with grandpa. Spot the differences in the photos...*LOL*

A lot can happen in one minute, eh? *winks*

I did a little machine stitching...then conveniently ran out of bobbin thread so I did the next best thing....doodle!

This mixed media canvas belongs to...[insert your name]

Follow-your-dreams-mixed-media-canvas

Last week I shared this 6x6 mixed media canvas on my Facebook Fan Page and got some really lovely comments....so I thought it would be nice to score some points with Santa *winks* by giving this away to one lucky person! :)

The patterned papers are all from the Blue Fern Studios Montage Collection.

I toned down the design of the paper around my focal point with some heavy gesso, then added some Liquitex White Opaque Flakes for texture and subtle sparkle.

If you think this little mixed media canvas would look good on your desk/wall OR you just want to own a Yvonne Yam original [you know, in the event that I get famous or something...*winks*], leave me a comment on this post. The deadline is Tuesday, December 16th.

Fun monsters

Fun-monsters

So I had these fun photos of nephews #1 & #2 wearing the novelty headgears I got them. Coincidentally my friend Karen passed me some old Bam Pop patterned papers which was perfect for these photos...

The monster on the paper saved me from titling my layout "horny" boys...now that would be terrible right? *winks*

The photos I printed were way too small and had a really distracting background so I fussy-cut the silhouettes. I painted some white gesso on the background so it looked like they were standing on clouds since there were clouds on the patterned paper.

I love the doodling design on the patterned paper so I doodled similar designs on the speech bubbles. I also did the terrible doodling on the monster's eyes...*LOL*

The 5-minute Christmas card

5-minute-Christmas-card

Okay, so I'm a little late to the Christmas party since this is my first Christmas card of the year! But I'm staying positive because this only took 5 minutes! *winks*

1. Wind cording around washi tape roll to get the shape for the wreath....1 minute
2. Choose a card base from my stack of residual-misted card bases....1 minute
3. Heat up the hot glue gun and choose an embellishment saved from last year's Christmas card....1 minute
4. Adhere the wreath and the embellishment...1 minute
5. Add little bits of Golden gold mica flakes...30 seconds.
6. Admire my handiwork....30 seconds. *LOL*

*Edited* This card was one of the highlights at the Mixed Media Card Challenge and made Honorable Mention at CAS(E) this sketch.

P/s: Happy weekend friends!

Let's show a little kindness...

Kindness-mixed-media-canvas
"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." Aesop
I'm grateful for the little acts of kindness others have shown me...holding the door open for me, letting me go ahead in the queue, leaving me sweet messages in the comments*winks*...

And I try my best to treat others with kindness. I know it's so hard NOT to whine and complain. That's why we need art therapy right? *LOL*

Self-expression...

123go

This is self-expression...when a little girl [aka niece] gets frustrated with her brothers! *LOL*

Having been on a floral kick for the past few weeks, it was nice to work with my fave Dylusions ink sprays for bright pops of colour!

The first round of photos I printed were too dark so I printed another set and fussy-cut them. The old photos were used for the "background" and the silhoutte photos were adhered with 3D dots for a pop-up feel.

Because I love experimenting...

Because-art-journal-page

I have been playing in my art journal every night...adding little bits of mediums and colorants and just enjoying the experimentation process.

It takes a while to complete the journal pages because I often work on multiple pages at a time across  a few art journals. This is primarily because I like my mediums to try naturally rather than speed up the process with a heat tool.

These pages were created with The Crafter's Workshop stencils, Liquitex light modelling paste and super heavy gesso, Caran D'ache Neocolor II crayons and Ecolines liquid watercolours.

Follow the signs...*winks*

Follow-the-signs-layout-by-Yvonne-Yam-for-The-Crafters-Workshop

I love that my family members are always game to take "silly" photos...for a good laugh!

For instance, on the last family vacation to Taiwan, we were all about "following the signs"....

Check out the expression on my sister's face! *LOL*

Fly away...a mixed media canvas

Fly-away-mixed-media-canvas

So I was lucky enough to win a pack of the Montage paper collection from Blue Fern Studios [yeah...when I was on their DT, they only had chipboard...now they have pretty papers too..*pouts*] which has put me in a fly away, romantic, floral mood of late...

I am down to my last two pieces of patterned papers and have done 3 layouts and 5 canvases...[yay, go me! *winks*]

I recently got myself a bottle of Crackle Glossy Accents which explains why you've been seeing "frames" on my projects...*LOL*

And I've also been furiously using my sewing machine...because the warranty is almost up [I got it last Christmas]...*LOL*
