Exploring styles: The Minimalist

Whether you have been crafting for a long time or are still a newbie, one question often comes to mind:" What is my style?" Oh well, I still don't know my style. You know I seem to like to dabble in everything...*LOL* Shall we explore the minimalist style?

Minimalist: Person who favours using less. "White space" is often the main design element. Embellishments are added in small doses and often to enhance brevity of thought and draw the eye to the photo/s.

Sweet embrace

The traditional minimalist.

Three strips of patterned paper serve as the mat for the two photos.
The title is the journaling.
The strip of ribbon help guide the eye from left to right.
The two flowers reflect the two people in the photos.
The tulle reflects the bride's veil.
The buckle and bling add a little bit of sparkle.

  Belly button

The mixed media minimalist.

A focal point characterized by one colour palette.
A single photo. In black and white.
Subtle textures: the sanded background on the photo, the texture paste on the base, tulle and trim.
Few embellishments: a silver ribbon tab, a date sticker, a button, canvas letters, stickers.

Meeting-Lynnda-in-Melbourne

The neutral minimalist.

A mainly neutral colour palette enhanced by pops of red to guide the eye around the page.
Design elements like the circular motif and rectangle are repeated in a small doses.
The subtle chevron motif helps to "frame" the layout.
White space represented by the kraft cardstock.

Whatcha doing

The fussy-cutter minimalist.

Fussy-cut elements. Semi-adhered to create texture without bulkiness.
Pops of coloured single-layer embellishments keep focus on photos.
Lots of white space.

So, what do you think? Are you a minimalist? Am I a minimalist? Let me know in the comments section. :)

I think defining style is HARD! (insert whining there, lol!) I think I am generally NOT a minimalist, although I like playing with it. I think you like playing with styles too :)

Man, I love your pages! And I love that you embrace so many different styles! You do them all so well. I am definitely not a minimalist on cards....but I do like things on the clean side with layouts. :)

Minimalist or not, those are some groovy layouts. I love the wedding one. I think one good rule of scrapbooking is to keep the photos in mind. Sometimes they get lost in "all the other stuff". The trick is to get "the other stuff" to enhance the photos. Easier said than done, eh?

These are beautiful! I don't think of you as a minimalist at all - your pages are always so rich with detail and there's always a little something here and another something there to catch the eye.

I sometimes do a minimalist page....and then freak out a little and do a "fully loaded" page or altered item right away. It's fun to try all kinds of styles, though! You have definitely rocked these! The first one takes my breath away!

I found myself really enjoying these minimalist layouts, Yvonne. Especially the first, with the pretty pink flower petals on there!

Well yes to me you are a minimalist with these examples although generally you do like to layer it up a bit more. I don't really strive after or favour the minimalist style. I do definitely prefer it to the maximist ??? style though! Too much is awful although I do like a bit of added dimension & love me some layers!
