Masking tape texture....with Miae Rowe!

My guest today is the super talented Miae Rowe of Making Scrap Up. Miae has a fun and whimsical style that really appeals to me! I really love how she creates textures on her layouts with her use of mediums and fabulous use of colour! Today she shares how you can create texture with masking tape and is hosting an awesome challenge with a prize for one lucky player!

Let's admire some of Miae's fave projects!

Hello everyone! I'm so excited and honored to be a guest here! A BIG thank you for having me Yvonne!

Today I wanted to share with you some of the ways I like to create texture on my pages. There's been a huge trend in the world of scrapbooking of incorporating mixed media into layouts and I LOVE it! This seems to include anything from found objects to different art mediums. As a result of this, pages are wonderfully full of texture and dimension.

Two ways that I like to add texture is with masking tape and a texturing medium called Snow Writer by DecoArt.

Masking tape is so affordable (I get mine from the dollar store) and malleable! It's definitely one of my 'go to' items! I've done a quick tutorial on how I made some dimensional embellishments from masking tape:

1) Supplies needed: cardstock, masking tape, gesso, stuff to color the masking tape, cloud stencil (or you can freehand draw), pencil, scissors, and brush

2) lay down 3 to 4 rows of masking tape, crinkling and folding as you go. The more crinkles the more texture!

3) paint gesso over the tape

4) use whatever mediums you love and add color!

5) draw your picture in the back and cut it out

6) now you've got textured clouds!

The other item I like to use is Snow Writer. It's comes out like a paste, has a nice gritty texture, hold its shape and dries quickly. I usually apply it with a palette knife but you can apply it with whatever you feel like!

Here's a page I made using the masking tape clouds and some Snow Writer (the stars):

So now my challenge to you is make a project with........some texture!  Take your masking tape, your washi tape, wrinkle it up and splatter stuff on it! Take your tubes and jars of gesso, molding paste, Snow Writer, and make fun and beautiful shapes! Go on, I dare ya ;)

Play along for a chance to win this RAK!
